"Ms. [Member Name Removed], Very sorry for the the mistake on our part. I know you had called to arrange nearly a week prior. With the heavy summer work load your request was never properly dispatched and fell through the cracks so to speak. Wish you had called us back when you did not hear from us that morning to inquire why you had not been contacted, I would have responded immediately. My Apologies, David LeVangie"
"Regarding [Member name removed] comment concerning repairs at her vacant rental house recently, we repaired her air conditioner and not the gas furnace. We only cleaned it. We are going to check the heater for her sometime this week when she can meet us @ the property. We will call her to arrange. Thank you, David LeVangie, Owner"
It worked out much better than that. Dave was no-nonsense about the size of the unit that would be needed and indicated that he primarily sells the "basic" (nowadays 14 SEER) Amana models, but he could put in the more "fancy" (16 SEER) if we wanted it. No "hard sell" for the more expensive unit AT ALL, whereas for most of the other providers the "more fancy" unit was considered to be almost de rigeur. We did go for the higher-efficiency unit, however, as we plan to be in this house a while. He also said point-blank that part of our duct work was broken (I believe "crushed" was the word he used), but it could be fixed and the remaining parts sealed up; replacement was unnecessary.
The communications were timely; we were informed about what was to be done and when. I got walked through the particulars of how the new unit operates, what to expect and so forth. The duct work repairs were effective; one room that had always been "running hot" is now as comfortable as the rest of the house. The new grilles are a boon when it comes to ease of filter replacement.
They've got my recommendation!
"The two home owners called us out for an AC system service special advertised on Angie's List. They recently purchased the home and were required to have this done to keep their home warranty valid. While standing with the husband outside at the unit, it failed to turn on. Our technician removed the cover and cleared out the ants that were keeping the contactor switch inoperative. We suggested it should be replaced as the points were badly burnt and should fail soon. He said don't bother as he had a home warranty to cover this. We continued servicing the unit and left it in good working order. Apparently his wife was quite upset that my technician did not condemn the outside unit so they would get a new free air conditioner. Go figure? Sincerely, David LeVangie, Owner"
Although I am not an A/C technician, I am familiar with hard start kits and know its not a costly device nor a difficult installation. I passed on his offer and bought a top of the line model myself here in town (for about $50). NOTE: If you are in the market for a hard start kit for your A/C unit and don't want to buy it yourself, you will find most A/C companies around Gainesville will charge triple for their own kit and that's without installation.
I contact several companies around town and they refused to install the kit unless I bought it from them...that was until I spoke with David from Northwood. He was really polite and empathized with my situation. He not only could install the Kit for his typical service fee ($70), he was able to do it the following day! When I met him at my house, he was punctual and professional.
He checked my A/C unit, installed the part and then rechecked everything to make sure it was working properly. It only took him about 15-20 minutes, and I could tell he was being diligent and cautious. Not once did he try to upsell me on parts or services.
I would suggest Northwood and David to anyone.
(Another important thing to note: if you dont want to go out and buy a kit yourself and would rather have an AC Company provide and install the part; Northwood was still the most affordable/lowest estimate for the job).
