They have installed a lot of stuff for us and we are happy with what we have. Our bills did go down and we here happy about that. The air handler as well as the compressor have been sufficient to cool and heat the house. We really have had no complaints.
*Update*
To address the company's response, I did complain about the humidity on multiple occasions, and it wasn't until I brought out an AC technician from a different company that I was able to resolve the issue. Instead of attempting to fix the problem, Mid Florida offered to sell me a whole house dehumidifier. Needless to say, I'm extremely happy that I declined. Mid Florida wrote that a technician attempted "to explain the operation of the humidity control on the thermostat," but they failed to mention that it was the wrong thermostat ? we had to purchase a more expensive ($500) thermostat to work with the two-stage AC system. I honestly have no idea how the company could have noted "all checks were good" during the routine maintenance because they had adjusted the fan outside of its safe operating specifications in some kind of haphazard attempt to counter the high humidity. According to the second AC company that actually fixed Mid Florida's botched installation, this fan adjustment would have prematurely worn out the fan's motor. I could write several further pages on what Mid Florida did wrong, but I will sum it up with my firm belief that they don't train their employees properly, that they have no desire to properly install or repair AC equipment, and that their low-level employees are taught to sell additional equipment to fix problems that exist only due to their incompetence. Keep in mind when a company claims "we stand behind the work we do" that words are cheap and actually doing a good job is harder.
"[member name removed]; We wish that you would have brought to Mid-Fla's attention the fact that you were having trouble with your system that we installed in 2012. Mid-Fla has been to your home twice since the system was installed both in 2012. First, to explain the operation of the humidity control on the thermostat to you, and the second was a routine maintenance where all checks were good. Neither calls notes ever mentioned anything about the system not staging properly or that you were dissatisfied in any way! Again we wish you would have contacted us on this matter because we stand behind the work we do, and if we did in fact make a mistake we would have corrected it at no charge to you."
"[member name removed], We always appreciate feedback from our clients, so thank you for taking the time to post. We would like to clarify that our team members in the field are not compensated on a percentage basis, but a task related pay system similar to the automotive industry. This system has proven over the years to save our clients time and money by Mid-Fla sending highly trained team members that are going to get the job done properly and quickly the first time out. Our team members are trained to educate clients as to what ALL of their options are in regards to the efficiency & safe operation of their system, level of indoor air quality in their home/office, and overall efficiency of the building envelope then it is up to the client to decide what is best for them and if they want to move forward with any of the recommendations or not. Either way works for us, but we always leave the ball in the client's court. Our goal on any service or maintenance call is to prevent the system from breaking down or breaking down again, so if a team member recommends a part be replaced that is only because that part shows signs of wear or is out of the manufacturers' specified range of tolerance. After reviewing your account in detail, we are not sure which appointment you might be referring to, so if you would like to discuss this matter further please contact our office. Thank you in advance for your feedback and time."
They showed up on Friday at 7pm.The appointment was 2:30pm One of the men went up into the attic and 28minutes later said he had sealed the duct work. The cost for 28 minutes was $779.00.I thought that was high for the work they had done so I called around to three other well know companies and inquired. The prices ran between $400 to $550.00 and time was two to three house. I confronted them and they claimed they were better then others and as far as I am concerned it was all BS. An inspector came out and said it was the poorest insulation job that he had seen in a long time. They sent the same two men out and blew more insulation in however they did not do anything about the duct work. When the job was reinspected they said I now had R38 insulation. I asked how he knew and was told he eye bowl it. There was no measurments done just guess work.
When they finished the kitchen the kitchen lights began to go off then turn on a few minutes later. They have (and I mean have) blown insulation around each light and when they heat up they turn off. I asked if they would move the insulation from around the lights and they have not. I am 74 and disable and not able to go into the attic or I would do it myself.
So I have duct work sealed that could have been done by a 6 year old and charged $779.00 and insulation blown in with no professional inspection done just guess work and a poor job at that.
They did give me a $200.00 discount on the duct work which is still way to much for 28 minutes of work when everyone else takes two to three hours. I still don't believe the proper work was done in either case insulation or duct work.
In the past I have used them to work on my air/heating units two of them and have always been satisfied.
I WILL NEVER NEVER USE THEM AGAIN FOR DUCT WORK OR INSULATION AS I DO NOT FEEL THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING IN THAT DEPARTMENT. THE PRICES ARE EXEREMELY TOO TOO HIGH ALMOST TO HIGH WAY ROBERY.
I WILL CONTINUE TO LET THEM WORK ON MY UNITS HOWEVER WILL NEVER LET THEM GO UP IN MY ATTIC AGAIN.
THE $200.00 DISCOUNT THEY GAVE ME WAS NOT MONEY BUT FREE WORK ON MY UNITS IN THE FUTURE. AFTER THIS I PROBABLY WILL USE SOMEONE ELSE.
I AM SO DISAPPOINTED IT MAKES ME SICK.
I HAVE WAITED A MONTH BEFORE WRITING THIS TO SEE IF I WOULD COOL OFF. I HAVE NOT.
l"[Member name removed], Thank you for taking the time to post your opinion of our company. We appreciate all feedback positive and negative! We see that this post was made by you before we had the opportunity to resolve/ address any of your concerns with the work we performed at your home. Since this post was made as you may recall the President and Vice President of Operations for Mid-Fla Heating and Air came and visited with you at your home. During this visit they were able to take pictures of the depths the insulation was applied at throughout the home's attic, and showed them to you so you would then know it was insulated correctly. Also the Vice President of Operations while in your attic inspected all the ductwork’s points of connection which visually all appeared to be sealed. During this visit they also addressed your concern with the overheating late 70s model can light fixtures. They agreed at no charge to repair the existing 44year old can lights thermal switches, and discussed with you that we could have avoided this occurrence by being allowed to follow our companies policy of performing a blowerdoor test at the beginning of our initial evaluation on 1/8/14. The blowerdoor test would have identified significant air leakage around all the can light fixtures, so if we knew that then we could have prescribed airtight can light covers; which would have sealed off the wasted energy from air leakage into the unconditioned space of the attic as well as provide sufficient clearance from the insulation for all the existing can light fixtures, but you declined allowing us to perform this test on the initial onsite visit. On 5/23/14, you did agree for our company to finally perform a blowerdoor test. This test identified the leaking can light fixtures, and re verified that the ductwork was sealed properly because we received no additional leakage from the duct system itself. The blowerdoor test demonstrated and identified the need for airtight can light covers which we have since installed for you. As far as we know there is no other concern(s) that has gone unaddressed. If there are any additional questions or comments about the work we performed please contact our office to discuss it further."
