Joe was found on line while searching for contractors to remodel our kitchen, (granite counter tops, granite table and back splash). We found 4 contractors, (online, local magazines and friend refferals). We set appointements for each. Two of them showed up 20 min's + late and that immidiately turned us off. The third was on time but the quote was over 35% higher than the others. The last one was Joseph Celello. He showed up on time and seemed very agreeable and friendly. He measured, spoke of how he does the work himself and tossed out names of granite companies that give him great deals. In the end, he had the best price, was on time for the initial estimate and seemed to know what he was doing. We went with Joe. We set a date and time (10am on a Friday) with him which was put on the contract. He asked for a deposit, (half) which I was not too happy with as anything more than a 1/3 should be questionable but at this time I was still feeling confident we were dealing with a proffesional. We picked out our granite and eagerly awaited for the install day. My wife took the day off of work and cleared the counters, table etc. in preparation for the installers. 10:am came and went, no word from Joseph Celello or any member of his team. We called and called, finally at 2:30pm he answers and says he does not know why his team did not show up. This was the first time we were aware that he did not do the work himself. Finally at 4:15pm two individuals showed up. They had no idea they had to show up at 10am much less that they had to remove the old counter top, nor that they had to put up backsplash and did not know anything about the table. They seemed upset as well for Joe not telling them. After a serious and unproffesional discussion with them, we agreed to proceed to salvage the day, especially since it seemed as though we were all victims of Joe's lack of communication. Once they looked at the counter inside the home they immidiately realized that Joe had measured wrong and the granite was cut incorrectly which made it unrepairable and uninstallable. They further realized that Joe has also measured part of the backsplash wrong and stove top as well. Bottom line, all of the chosen granite for the counter and backsplash could not be used because Joe did not properly measure. Joe's team bad mouthed him the entire time stating that he does this to them all of the time, that he also promises things and never delivers and that he never pays them what he owes them. Joe came by to discuss this and tried to argue that he measured right but they cut wrong, he then tried to have me agree to install the counter as it was making it shorter than we agreed leaving partially iuncovered, which was completely ridiculous. He realized quickly however that he was wrong when the paper we signed and agreed to had the measurements on it which was incorrect. When asked when this would be corrected, he gave vague answers and simply kept stating this could be easily fixed. We had enough. After they came over 5 hours late with no call, my wife wasted a work day with no pay, the measurement mistakes and the extremely unproffesional behavior from Joe I asked him to leave my house immidiately. I agreed to call him the next day to discuss how this would be fixed. I asked for my deposit back as I obviously did not want him working on this project. He refused. We agreed to proceed. We had to pick out new granite and the new install did not take place until a week and a half later. They showed up late for that install as well. They broke the following during the install: 5 areas of sheetrock on the walls in and around the kitchen bringing the granite in, the top counter under the granite was crushed, they broke the beam under the sink counter and they broke the beam under the stove counter. They took apart an intercom system and did not fix it until days later. The backsplash was not scheduled either. That was done two days later (the installer was a nice guy and seemed to know what he was doing) however that had to be redone as it was not done right around the receptacles. Lastly, the table top we paid for was delivered cracked right down the center. The installers said to take it up with Joe. Joe came over a week later after repeated calls and agreed it was cracked. He agreed to replace it as I had paid for a granite slab that was unused. That was almost 5 weeks ago. I have called and called and the only time I get him is when I block the number and he always says they have been busy but that he knows its cracked and they will fix it when they can. I have given up on that. My attorney is handling and the first thing that was done was to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. In the end, we have a borken table, broken walls, borken counter beams and a really bad experience. The big lesson is to do as many references as possible. We checked his license out, I did a complaints check through local directories and law enforcement but I wish I could have spoken to actual customers. I would have paid another $1,000 to have been happy with this experience. What ever you do, stay clear of this scam artist. He does floors, pavers, walkways, kitchens, bathrooms, etc. unfortunately, and I am quoting from his own installers, "his customers never end up happy".
