"Southern Irrigation was contacted to determine why this particular irrigation system was not operating. Upon visiting the residence the homeowner said that they had recently moved in and that the system had not been operating in over a month (to the homeowners knowledge). Upon southern irrigations inspection, they determined that the circuit breaker for the control box was faulty, there was bad wiring leading to the pump and when the pump itself was turned on it caught on fire. The pump and original check valve were noticeably old and worn down. Southern was contracted to install (1) new DS3 1.5 HP STA-RITE pump, (1) new 2” Harvard check valve, (1) new 2 pole 230 v breaker, any necessary fittings and to prime the pump to operate. Once completed, the system worked flawlessly. The homeowner called a few days later requesting for Southern Irrigation to come and inspect why the pump would not keep its prime. Upon our inspection, there were no noticeable leaks on the new valve or anywhere else and because it was a new valve, Southern did not assume this to be the problem. Because the well had not been used in so long prior, Southern decided that before any other action be taken, to have a well company come out to see if there was a broken well casing, a clogged pipe or at the time a lot of wells had been running dry due to the drought, so that was an option as well. Any well company would have determined if any of these things were an issue free of charge. If Southern Irrigation had any indication that the valve was the issue we would have gladly replaced it at no charge."
