If I had not been happy with them, we would have changed companies. We've had it with them for 12 or 13 years. I'm very happy with them. Anytime there's ever been a problem, they've explained it.

The installation was satisfactory until I noticed that Grimes has not pulled permits for any of the installations. I found out by asking for a copy in latter part of September. Grimes then found the time and money to pull the permits 6 and 3 months late and I found that there were a number of issues that would not have passed the county inspector. Apparently Grimes also new this as the hustled to get the permits and fix the issues needed. Once the "cat was out of the bag", I found that there was a potential fire issue that was not addressed at the time of installation and Grimes happily fixed the issues. MY CONCERN IS HOW MANY ISSUES LIKE MINE OCCUR? The county nor the state found that there was much they could do until I complained, thus, unless the consumers are aware and ask for the permit, Grimes will probable continue to not pull permits and do as little as possible. Thus, leaving the consumer in the dark and potentially hazardous position. This standard practice by Grimes (they will say it is an isolated incident ASK them if complaints have been filed They Have) allows them to undercut prices and thus make more money.

After 6 phone calls, 12 hours AFTER my initial call to their answering service , the AC was fixed. I have been a customer of this business for almost 4 years, since they installed a new A/C for me. I have had a maintenance agreement with them since then. This is by far the most disappointing experience I've had with them. I came home from work yesterday to a house that was 79°F. I went outside and discovered the fan was not operating, despite the fact that air was coming out of the A/C vents. Although they advertise "Whether it is for your home or business, you can depend on our service 24 hours a day! With experienced professionals and family values, we understand the importance of your business. That is why we have on-call, 24-hour dispatch service ready to help you with your AC needs.", this hasn't been my experience with them. I called their answering service 3 times last night, the first time being at 11:58 PM,the last time at 1:38 A.M. I remained awake for hours, waiting for a callback which never came. I could barely sleep due to the heat and humidity in the house. I paged the answering service again at 7:30 AM. I was told the office opened at 8:00 A.M., and they would leave a message for the office staff. I waited until 8:34 A.M., then finally called the office myself. They paged a service manager, who called me back 45 minutes later, apologizing for the fact that the on-call technician had failed to call me back. When I suggested my service call should be prioritized under the circumstances, I was told that " like all A/C businesses in the summertime, our schedule is completely filled. Let me see when I can fit you in." I have to work today and tomorrow, and do not have the time to stay awake waiting for someone to call me back, AGAIN. The service manager did call back within the hour, but was unwilling to make any type of concession whatsoever to mitigate the impact of the multiple inconveniences I experienced as a result of the company's inability to provide me with 24 hour emergency service they advertise. The service manager also said the service technician should be here by noon, 12 hours after my initial call. The service technician was polite, and arrived at the time the service manager had promised.

I had received a quote for replacement of my central air system from a different company but was not impressed with that other company's ability to describe the product I was receiving for my money.  I then called Grimes based on a previous customer's recommendation which was a couple hundred dollars higher, but for a better brand in my opinion.  The office staff was extremely friendly, answered all my questions,  and provided me a quote based on my current unit's BTU rating and my desired SEER rating. They were able to schedule an installation day as per my needs (since my current unit was still operational).  On installation day, the two-person crew arrived as scheduled.  This installation crew is the cause of my reduced rating. They weren't very friendly upon arrival and one of the two in particular did not seem enthused at all to be at work at 08:30 am.  He also smoked cigarettes while on the job, causing smoke to waft into my garage. I later found a cigarette butt next to a bush in the vicinity of the outdoor unit.  They were confused about getting my existing digital Honeywell thermostat to function with their equipment. Being familiar with modern major name-brand thermostats that have been on the market for quite some time and how they communicate with the equipment they sell, service, and install seems like it should be core job knowledge.  Installers were sloppy with the routing of the power cable to the outdoor condensing unit.  It's original orientation had be be changed slightly to accommodate the connection to the new unit.  A clamp holding the power cable neatly to the wall was removed and never reinstalled to an appropriate new location to accommodate the new unit's orientation. Now I have the power cable stretched across mid-air to the condenser. It could have easily been refastened neatly to the wall in a new spot, but wasn't.  Seems lazy.  It would be nice if the company did follow-up phone calls with their customers to see if everything was completed to satisfaction; that's what I would do if I owned my own business. The inside evaporator unit was neatly installed and the modified duct-work looked great. The new AC unit is working fine. I'm already seeing a vast improvement in electrical consumption. The new Carrier unit is a 16 SEER. The old Rheem unit was vintage 2003, and I believe a 10 SEER. My power usage now when I'm home ALL DAY with the thermostat set at 75 degrees is the same as it used to be when I was away at work all day for 12 hours with the AC set at 83 degrees.

I had another bid from a competitor and the contrast in styles of doing business was immense. The other man would fit well with a used car lot. Grimes doesn't have a "sales dept," Whomever gives you a proposal also does repairs and, therefore, I believe such a person knows more about the unit he's offering. Dan explained the units that would fit my requirements and explained the differences and it was my choice which to purchase. I chose a 17-SEER Carrier. Brian and his coworker installed the unit and the finished job is neat as a pin. The unit is so quiet we questioned if it was running; it was upon inspection. Good warranty, good work, good people, good unit.

I called first thing in the morning, hoping they would be able to work me into their schedule. Tech Dan called me approximately an hour later and said he was on the way. I described how the unit had been acting and he listened carefully to me and set about, inspecting it and diagnosing the problem. Within 20 minutes he had found the problem and replaced whatever was necessary. We discussed what I should expect for the future of the unit, now 10 yrs old, and he counseled me as to what money I should reasonably spend and what would be too much for the age of the unit. He was extremely helpful to me and I could not be more pleased.

The two techs did a great job. they removed the old condensor and air handler. I'm glad the tech who the air handler knew what he was doing as it was a tought job that was harder than estimated. A lot of carpentry was required to install the new air handler. Everything was completed in one day and the system seems to be working properly three weeks later. All areas were cleaned up after the work was completed. I plan to use Grimes for service on the system in the future.
The major do was getting a crew that understood what was required to complete the job.

I highly recommend them. They are excellent. They have been around for a long time. Their prices are fair. They have been around since the 1960's so I wanted a company that would be around and have a warranty. A friend of mine in the business in California said that I got a great deal. They also do commercial work. I am very happy with them and would strongly recommend them.

I got a call right before he needed to come out. It was great because I didn't need to sit around waiting for him to show up.
