This company is out of business. They were shut down, by the state of Florida, for Do Not Call violations and customer repair complaints.

I will not recommend Service Star Cooling & Heating, Inc had to do some duct work to try and fix the issues, they never did fix it completely. They can do everything better starting from the owner. We had a terrible time to get in touch with the owner because of issues we were having. He refused to call us ad wouldn't answer our phone calls. We ended up dealing with their office manager. The house wasn't cooling, we contacted them to say we had a problem. They came back and said the problem was our duct work, it needed to be upgraded so we upgraded it with them. First time they did any duct work, there was no change. The second time, it cooled it better but not what we would expect with a brand new high efficiency unit. We had their multiple service people out here constantly for 6 months and never once did any of them not find an issue that needed to be addressed. Every time they came out, there was an issue that they found. The inspector came out and their initial load calculation that they put in was too small and manipulate calculations which they did. I tell everybody that I know not to use them.

I found them on Angie's List. They gave us an astronomical quote on the repair and we said that that was too high, they said that we could do it off the books for $600 and when my husband said that we don't keep that cash around, he said that can we go get it and at that point we said that we weren't interested. I will never, ever, ever call them again. I'm totally not happy with them at all. They were late for the appointment.

The service that they performed was fine but because we had work done,
we were promised 3 years of free service. Now the company doesn't seem
to remember who we are. When I call for service, they can never find any
record of us in their system.

I feel like I was charged $29.50 for a high pressure and misleading sales pitch. They certainly did not clean anything and stopped checking as soon as they thought they could sell me a new system with upgrades. They left upset when I did not commit to buying a new system. I would not use them again.

 They came and inspected the comeplet system, we had called complaining of excess dust and sir flow not being consistant thru out the house expecially the back bedroom and master bath and closet.  they checked whole system found some problems with the  duct work and found that the compressor was drawing high amps.  They found alot  of microb growth in the air handle.  We  decided to go with a more efficient system and eliminate the freon system and install a uv light to help with mold.
The service techs were very knowlegable and efficient and worked very deligently until the job was complete.  Everyone worked with us to explain what and why the made the recommendations that they did.  There was no highpressure sales pitch.  We are very satisfied with the results are home feels much more comfortable and the dust is now down to normal.

Received an unsolicted call from Service Star saying that they had a tech in our area and were running a $29.95 special on an A/C check that would include a new filter, freon refill if needed, etc.  Tech arrived promptly and performed service.  After the service he informed us that 2 coils were going bad and that there was a freon leak.  He said that the R-22 freon was phased out and he could not refill the system.  Well, that ended up being a lie since R-22 freon refills can be done on existing a/c systems until 2020.  Said the coils could be replaced for $2,200 for parts, plus service, so he recommended that we get a new unit and he could even install it tomorrow.  That made me suspicious, especially since we were having no issues with the system and it is only 5 1/2 years old.  The estimate he gave us for the unit was $5,800 and they would deduct $500 for the FPL rebate (they would keep the rebate) and explained we qualified for up to $300 tax credit for 2011. 

Well, after I found out about the freon "lie," I have a new company coming to inspect tomorrow for a second opinion.  Additionally, I found out the manufacturer of the unit he recommended is offering a $1,000 rebate!!!  No mention of this, of course.  On top of this, he charged us $39.95 instead of the $29.95 special, but I was so upset about our AC system needing to be replaced that I didn't even realize we'd been overcharged until after he left.

Even if the system does need to be replaced, I will NOT use Service Star:
1.  Lied about not being able to refill R-22 freon since it was "banned."
2.  Not mentioning or inlcuding the manufacturer's rebate in the estimate.
3.  Overcharging us for the maintenance call.

Buyer beware!

Although we recommend Puron for energy and environmental effiiciency, it is our policy to still work on, refill, and service all Freon systems. I think the price was good. They checked out my old one and it was leaky a lot of cold air, it was older so I went ahead and got a new one. Everything went fine, except I am still waiting for my thermostat. I would use them in the future to have something serviced, but not for installation.

Removal of old units and the installation of the new units and new thermostat took less than 2 hrs. The installers were very professional and courteous and definitely knew their job. They cleaned up after they were finished and left no trace that they were even there. I would recommend Service Star to my friends.
