Hurricane Marine of SW Florida

Dave of Hurricane Marine soul owner and worker at times talks a great job.I've done gell coat work in the past.I've owned boats all my life and believe me I know what a good job is.The only reason I had to hire anyone is the fact that I'm  Snow Bird and don't have a shop down here in Fl.
I hired Dave to do the job back in june 2014.He stated that if I hadn't had pictures of the damage you would never know any work had been done on the boat.He seemed to be very knowledgable and he truly thinks he's a craftsmen.I didn't know at the time that he is a lazy person and hirers anyone that can tolerated his bad attitude.
Dave promised me that the boat would be finished by october 1st . I left for Md. and said that I was returning Oct 5th.I said I was flying down and planned to pick my boat up then.I called Dave two weeks before to make sure that the boat would be finished as I was going to make flight reservations for my return.He said " no worries " I reiterated and said are you sure ? He got angry because I asked him twice. The day before I was supposed to leave I called to make sure it was going to be finished.That's when things really started going south.He gave me all kinds of excuses how it wasn't his fought.He stated that it was his hired help and that he couldn't find anyone that wasn't brain dead.He told me to come anyway and promised that it would be done within the week. I considered and said no I couldn't trust him.I told him to call when the job was finished and I'd be right down.I need to mention that I'd already given he over five thousand dollars(.I can't believe I did that ) Well,believe it or not,the following week he called me and said that he needed more money too continue.I said that I couldn't give him anymore money until the job was finished.That evening I received an email stating that he was going to put the boat back in the shop and was going to finish the job.He also said that after the job was finish he was going to put the boat outside and lock the tailer so it couldn't be moved.He also stated that he was now going to charge me storage for every day until it was picked up.He new from previous conversations that I had prior plans and couldn't return until November.I new he was anger because I wouldn't send him more money,so like a fool I sent him more money as not to compromise the quality of the job.In a round about way he was extorting money from me.After that he was happy and sorry that he threatened to charge me storage.
I arrived back in fl. the first week of november.He said he had finished the job but he wasn't satisfied with the color match and that he wanted me to come and look at it.I said why bother and that if he wasn't happy why would I be.He insisted so I took the time and went to his shop to have a look.He was right about the color and with no argument said that he would make it right.What bothered me most was that the boat had been sitting outside withe no covers on it.He didn't even take the time to put the center console cover on it,a thirty second job.The boat was trashed.He told me he had to order a different color gel and it would be done the following wk. and the boat would be all cleaned up.I called the following wk to see if the boat was done.He sad he was busy doing other jobs so he could get paid.I said,oh yeah,putting me on the back burner because Like a fool I already paid you.I started to plead with him and then realized he had hung up on me.Well he delivered the boat a week latter.That's when I finally realized this guy doesn't no what a quality job is,nor does he no what clean is,not only that the boat has damage to other parts that had nothing to do with the job.
There are grind marks on the center console where he must have hit it by accident.There are scuff marks on the back of the engine cover where he must have backed up into something.The rub rail looks like a blind man installed them and there are very visible lumps in the rub rail where he must have used wrong mounting screws.
After six months you think he would have at least done a half decent job.After I sent him all the money up front because he said he was hurting financially and after all the excuses,and talking to me a dog I feel betrayed.
If there's anyone considering using Hurricane Marine,I welcome you to come and see for yourself.I will be more then happy to talk with you.and show you this poor excuse for workmanship.
