appear. That is the case with "Fab Furn", just not in a good way.
They are a furniture dispensary that TRIES to adopt the "high-volume-low-price"
business strategy to sell their product. The only problem is that while they
have the high advertising budget (i.e., infomercials that run constantly on
local TV) and high pressure sales techniques of high volume stores, they forgot
about the low prices part.
I moved to Ft. M a couple years back and needed to buy a lot
of furniture. As a result I went to most of the retail and consignment stores
in the area including "Fab Furn." That buying spree also allowed me several
opportunities to compare prices for exactly the same furniture (by manufacturer
and model). Since I only buy quality furniture from quality manufacturer my
only real criteria is price. Once I settled on a particular item, I'd go to the
stores that carry that model and just ask about price. I did this with at least
half a dozen pieces (recliners, sofas, table, etc.) at 5 to 7 different stores
including ?FabFurn.?
What I discovered it that, despite "Fab Furn"
claims to the contrary, they consistently had some of the HIGHEST prices if found
anywhere. When I told them that, they said I was wrong, BUT they were also willing
to haggle their price down a bit, but never to the lower price I?d found
elsewhere. In fact, the pushy salesman even told me that there was "no way
I could get the piece for that price" - again typical high pressure
tactic. I, of course, proved him wrong by buying the same piece for the much
cheaper price at another store.
Every time I bought a new piece I'd go in for another
"quote from" "Fab Furn". My experience was pretty much the
same; high pressure, high prices. That?s why I'm highly suspicious of all the
"good and great reviews" ?Fab Furn? gets on this and other websites -
very likely "astro-turfing" (the practice of sellers putting up fake positive
reviews on internet review sites).
Just to be clear, I have no personal ax to grind with ?Fab
Furn.? Unlike others here, I never got "ripped off" by them. But it
bothers me that this store, or any store, is allowed to permanently ?put one
over? on it unsuspecting customers. But again, don't take my word for it...
read the reviews, then comparison price shop as I did. It?s the only way to get
the best furniture at the best price.
Ordered a TV stand and was asked if I could wait until after Thanksgiving to get it, I said "sure". The salesman said it would take 7 -1 0 days and would arrive just after Thanksgiving. I called on 12/1/13 to check on the status, and the girl who answered the phone said she'd have to check into it and call me back. Never got a call. Since I did not hear back from anyone, I called again on 12/7/13 and was told again she'd have to check into it and call me back. She did and said it wouldn't be in until mid January!! Here I have a large TV in a box, in my living room, waiting for the stand, and now I'm not getting it until MID JANUARY??
I went back the next day to get my money back, and that wasn't so easy either. Turns out our salesman was fired; along with most of the other people. It was bought out by someone else in the meantime, and she wanted me to purchase something else. When I relucted, she told me it would take her 48 HOURS to provide me a refund!! Are you kidding me!? I have to make another trip in and wait 48 hours to get my money back? She texted her manager, and finally got approval to give us a credit on our credit card.
Wow, I would stay away from that place!
There were some glitches. One bedroom dresser had to be replaced. Stitching had to be repaired on the club chair. They delivered the wrong side chair. While these were minor inconviences, they were handled in a timely and professional matter. Unlike another company that we dealt with, Matter Brothers, which I will not be giving anymore business.
If you are in the market for furniture, it is worth a trip to Fabulous Furniture.
