Kitchen and Bathroom Remodel
$24,000
Written on 6/14/2011 Kitchen Renovation 5/18/2011 to 6/13/2011 ? Total completion 11/22/11 1-      On 5/4/11 Signed contract and gave Jerry Elliot?s Kitchens a check for $10679.  He requested the check be made out to him personally.  I did not do that.
-       There was a one week late delay in starting the project due to details incomplete on his previous job.  Work began on 5/18.
-      Jerry told me he needed to move the dishwasher so the sink would be in the correct place ? It did not make sense to me but I accepted.
-      Plumber told Jerry he had not bid the job with moving the dishwasher.  Jerry later told me he would have paid the plumber to move the sink hook ups.  He never offered that at the time.  Just asked if I was ok with keeping the sink hook ups where they were.
-      I accepted keeping the dishwasher and my original sink where they were but I realized later it was a different layout from my original kitchen and the sink would be badly placed.
-      After the template was made for the granite I noticed that moving a small cabinet from right of the dishwasher to the right of the sink would put the sink back where it was originally.
-      Called Jerry to stop the cutting of granite to re-measure? he said it was cut already.
-    Several days later the granite arrived, 5/26.  The eating extension was not on the granite.  Also, the sink was badly misplaced.  Both were unacceptable.  Jerry was not here for the installation.
-    On 5/27 Jerry looked at it and said the eating extension was the fault of the granite people and I should only have to pay for the sink change.  I gave him a check for $3331 that day.
-   Told me Barry Stinson?s charge for moving the cabinets would be $250.  Never gave me a change order including the plumber extra charge of $350 which I got when I had to ask on 5/10.  I asked for another statement at that time.  I never received a change order.
-   The granite sales person Val from GVM came and looked at the counter 5/27.  Said I had a choice of $2000 or $2500 to fix ? depending on how it would be cut.  Showed me two faxes from Jerry showing the counter set up.  The second one did not have the extended eating overhang.  They cut to that.  I told them I would write a check immediately for $1000 and Jerry could pay the other $1000 for the error on the eating counter.  They said to wait.
-   On 6/1 Jerry came to look at the counters.  Jerry asked me to give him a check for $3600 to cover the remainder of the contract plus the $600 for moving the cabinet and plumbing ? he still had not given me any statement on the extra work.  I gave him $3000.
-   I contacted the granite company, to see how things had worked out with Jerry.  I was then told the only choice was $2500.  I would pay $1500, Jerry $1000.  I found out later from Jerry on 6/13 that he was paying $500 which meant I really got the $2000 cutting.
-   Val from GVM came with a new granite contract on 6/6.  I signed and gave him a check for $1500.  I had to agree if I wanted the job to continue at all.
-   GVM came to do a new template ? must have been the 7th or 8th.  Jerry was here.
-   The replacement granite proceeded to completion on Thursday 6/10.  Jerry again was not here for installation.
-   Jerry and the plumber returned on Monday 6/13.  Jerry wanted the money for the extra work.  I told him I would pay when all work was completed.  I showed him a list of several items that needed t attention.  He threatened to leave with the plumber but I agreed to pay the plumber $350 separately when he finished reinstalling the dishwasher, sink, etc.    Plumber informed me at that time my garbage disposal was cracked and would be leaking.  He could tape it up as a make shift repair.  I should have been told that when the old cabinets were removed.  I could have had a new disposal ready for the plumber when he reconnected the sink.   See # 30 below for added charges
On 6/13 when Jerry left he told me there would be someone here in the am to attend to my ?punch list?.  At 10 AM on the 6/14 I had to call Jerry to find out what was happening.  His words to me were ?they do not want to come back?.  The only possible explanation for that is Jerry was not paying them.
-   On 6/13 I gave Jerry several excess knobs and drawer pulls to be returned to A&M Supply.  On 7/22 I called A&M to see if Jerry had returned the products.  He had not.  The company has a 30 day return policy so Jerry could no longer return the items.  Jerry finally returned the products to me on November 14.
-   During the process things came up that I discussed with Jerry and the crew.  One was lazy susans in my upper corner cabinets which he agreed to do.  On 6/1 when he asked me for money he told me they weren?t available from his cabinet company.  He did not look elsewhere.
-   From the beginning I asked for a pull out garbage unit under the sink.  He agreed.  When I showed him the punch list on 6/13 he told me he couldn?t do it because he had to pay the granite company $500 and wouldn?t make any money on the job.  I told him he needed to settle that with the granite people.  It had nothing to do with me.
-   Many of my outlet covers were either broken or lost during the process.  I discussed with the crew and Craig was going to buy the supplies but I never saw him or any of the crew again.  This was before the granite problem had been resolved.
-   I had a valance over my sliding doors that was either knocked down by mistake or taken down.  They were to reinstall it.  Done by me and a neighbor
-   Edging around the back splash on the porch granite needed attention.  I suggested ¼ round edging.  Not a large amount needed.  Had it completed by another contractor.
-   To the right of the TV cabinet there is an area that was covered by the old cabinet.  I spoke to Jerry about this and he suggested using some of the cabinet shelving material to cover the space.  Had to have it done by another contractor.
-   I was told by one of the crew they would do something to straighten out all the TV cable wires and hide them.  Done by my neighbor
-   Some of the drawers did not open properly and some did not close properly and some areas required more calking.  Done by another contractor.
-   The only thing I requested in the layout of the kitchen that was different than my old kitchen was putting drawers in the two cabinets under the eating counter and on both sides of the stove.
-   When installed the cabinet next to the refrigerator was 3 drawers as was the cabinet later on moved to the right of the sink.  There was only one drawer over door in the kitchen and it was a small cabinet.  Originally I had 3 drawer over door cabinets.
-   There is one additional cabinet on the outside of the eating counter that had an unusable drawer with a door under ? not accessible from the kitchen side.  When I noticed that Jerry Elliott said ?I knew that.  I did that to make it look better?.  Another contractor disabled the drawer hardware and attached the drawer front permanently before the granite counter was installed.&nb
