We moved to Broward from Miami three years ago. I know literally next to no one here and definitely no service providers, so I have to research EVERYONE. After I had been looking for a provider in this area for a while, I contacted an ex-neighbor friend who is a contractor and she recommended Vico as the only impact window and door install company she has used for the last 20+ years. I think I contacted probably five to eight equally well established and reputable companies before speaking to my friend and then calling Vico. (...there's a story with the other companies, I may add that into my review later.) I received estimates, opinions and recommendations from two or maybe three other companies on what doors they felt were what I wanted based on what I was looking for, one other company was just pushing one manufacturer...interesting. Vico was the most informative, patient, reasonable, detail-oriented company invested in getting me what I want where other companies were pushing me into what they wanted to sell. Everyone I spoke to at Vico, in my opinion, was honest and straightforward. (I've been a court reporter since 1984, so you decide for yourself what my opinion is worth on the subject of honesty.) End result, I went with Vico, called Theresa, set up a time and went in. She walked me around their showroom showing me door styles and what different manufacturers had to offer and style choices trying to narrow down what I was interested in--I could not make up my mind. I was truly NOT an easy customer. Theresa, my contact person at Vico, was courteous, helpful, and professional from start to finish; she helped me every step of the way and answered every question. If she didn't have an answer for me, she knew who did know and got it answered. In an effort to make the best decision I could, I subsequently researched door companies, hardware companies and high-end lock cylinders. I think I went through four estimates with her with different door styles and different manufacturers. Theresa took my indecisiveness like a trooper until my husband and I decided what we wanted. The choice was complicated because the door will take a beating, the sun sets LITERALLY in our front living room windows and door as the front of our house faces due west. And when it rains, there is not a lot of overhang on this circa 1960 home, so water is an issue. Not to make excuses, but what I wanted and what I needed were two different things, so there was a lot to consider and it took me a while to narrow it down and choose. Theresa gave me options on hardware and helped me narrow down my choices there. After we made our final decision on the door and put down a deposit, Theresa ordered the door and I went to order the hardware. Next step, permitting. Wendy with Vico kept me updated with the permitting process along the way. FYI, the city in which I live, they take their time with permitting, but Wendy worked some magic and it came through sooner than I anticipated. Then the door came in, (OMG, I LOVE IT). I went to visit the door before the permit was approved because the door came in earlier than the permit--don't judge me! I chose a period-appropriate yet modern door that wasn't exactly pictured in the catalog. The door had choices I made on the aesthetics of the door that were not directly reflected in the catalog, so I bought a door I couldn't see the end result until it was built. I went to the locksmith Theresa recommended, they were knowledgeable and reasonably priced. I ordered from a manufacturer in California and that order also came in timely (OMG, LOVE THE HARDWARE, TOO). After the permit was approved, Wendy from Vico called me and told me they had the permit approval and a time slot opened up for tomorrow morning and was I available for the install--I was. The installers arrived on time to do the install, it was quick and painless and SHEER PERFECTION--we could not be happier! The seal is tight, the door is level and plumb and all the things it needs to be. The installers were friendly, great guys and--my personal favorite--perfectionists, my kind of guys! We are at the city inspection phase right now, so the door is right now only primed, but it is absolutely beautiful! I can't wait to finish the house exterior and choose paint colors and paint the house and choose a cool color for the door and have it finished! The installers left everything clean, instructed me how to clean the door and gave tips on how to have it painted/finished and explained reference HVHZ stickers, what stickers not to paint over for insurance purposes and then handed over the permit for the forthcoming inspection and explained that process. The installation process was seemingly effortless on their end, absolutely flawless and completely painless on my end--it was a joy! I've been a homeowner for 30 years, mostly in Dade County, and no project has EVER been so easy and pleasant and well-executed. We will be remodeling our kitchen and master bathroom in 12-18 months which will be a larger job with multiple windows and I WILL be using Vico again. I know my front door replacement was not a new build or a big-money complete home renovation, but it was a big deal to me. And if you've made it this far into reading my review, you'll see that if you make the right customer happy, they will give you all kinds of good press and rave reviews and that customer is me. If you are looking to be treated with respect and if you like quality workmanship, Vico delivers. Many other equally reputable companies I called and/or visited in the immediate Broward area--and I'm sure anyone doing their due diligence in selecting a company in this industry to do any job like this in the area knows to whom I refer -- would not even take my information because I only needed to replace one point of entry. I'm sure they have their reasons and they may even be valid; nevertheless, I will admit that I was annoyed. Just for perspective, I have a good friend in Homestead who chose to install impact windows and doors and was mid-job when one of us called the other to talk. She had gone with a well-known company, I have seen their trucks up here and read reviews on that company and while their reviews were not bad, she has been living a complete nightmare for almost a year. I am so glad I found Vico and avoided that kind of drama and won't have to worry about it in the future when I do more remodeling. I have yet another neighbor here who was looking for three or four windows to be replaced with impact windows who was having the same problem I had getting an estimate on a smaller job and many large companies blew him off because he wasn't a $20,000 job, so let me say this about that. After this experience, I will only use Vico in the future and I will tell EVERYONE I meet who asks me and everyone I know who needs impact windows and doors installed to call Vico. I say to Vico Windows, Inc., again, now in print on social media, I THANK YOU, you have a new client who is very happy and will sing your praises from this day forward. (Hopefully I can append this review later with pictures when I paint my house and choose the color for my door and have it painted.)
