Pools by Design Build and Construct

Pools by DBC have been nothing short of a nightmare. I could write a book on the disaster our experience with this pool company has been over the past year and a half. We chose this company solely because they promised to complete our pool within four months of starting the excavation, a timeline clearly stated in our contract. For the first four months, this completion timeline was constantly reassured to us. However, when four months passed, the pool was nowhere near completion. They even took a two-month hiatus from any work after receiving a significant portion of our payment. By the four-month mark, they had already received $180,000. The owner repeatedly assured us that progress would be made each week, yet nothing was ever completed on time. It took them three weeks just to finish the plumbing, which failed inspection three times, adding yet another week of inactivity. One of their contractors carelessly sprayed concrete all over our elderly neighbor's roof while pouring for our pergola, and they attempted to cover it up until I noticed. They even falsely claimed to have cleaned the roof when it was still covered in concrete. Our pool required a reserve tank, leaving an open hole on the side of our house for several months, potentially risking future foundational issues. The amount of garbage left around our property was shocking, with contractors littering food wrappers in our plants and on the ground. After a year of construction, my husband would call Javier, the owner, daily, only to receive evasive responses or none at all. Consistently, he assured us the pool would be completed soon. Dealing with Adriana, the co-owner, was equally frustrating. Her forgetfulness meant we discussed the same incomplete items repeatedly, with her claiming completion where there was none. The pergola's roof, designed by their engineer, still holds water, a problem they refuse to address. The jacuzzi jets, meant to activate when the jacuzzi turns off, still malfunction. On top of all of that the waterfall on the pergola was not properly cleaned by their team and now is going to cost over $5000 to fix. We envisioned a beautiful pergola with a bed swing beneath it, but the brackets were installed crookedly, causing the swing to brush against the rope, ruining the experience. Now, they refuse to finish the punch list but still demand the remaining payment, contrary to our contract's terms. Do yourself a favor and avoid hiring Pools by DBC.

I highly recommend you look elsewhere for your pool needs. I recently had a new pool put in and I had to constantly reach out for updates to move the project along. I also had to tell them that they installed the equipment incorrectly. Now that it is complete, they will not return my calls to address issues I have or for additional work I'm requesting and willing to pay for.

It has been a horrible experience dealing with this company. In December 2023 we signed a contract with pools by DBC to build a patio pergola in our home. After approximately 6 months of delays and excuses before any work was started whatsoever their permit applications with the town were denied twice. The reasons stated by the city was that they were not properly licensed to do the work, there was an issue with their insurance coverage and they somehow submitted the wrong plans twice for the project. After learning this I canceled the project and have been getting the runaround for over a month now trying to get the deposit refunded their last excuse is the check must have gotten lost in the mail. I would highly recommend staying away from this company!

Great work, Great company. The work looks amazing and I was very happy working with them.

Horrible customer service. Poor communication-workers would just randomly show up in our back yard and it took forever to compete the work. And the work that was done, is garbage and needs to be redone but I’d rather hire someone else to fire their mistakes than to contact them ever again. I would never recommend them to anyone for anything ever.

The process was very smooth right from the start. I chose this company because they promised construction would be completed in 3 months, it was done in 11 weeks! We love our new pool and deck, it has completely changed the look and feel of our outdoor space. I would highly recommend!!!
