I've been a customer of Phil Thomas Air Conditioning for over 10 years. My AC unit was installed and serviced by this company. Mr.Thomas, I was told by his wife, retired and his sons and wife are running the company. Mr. Thomas was a fine business man, he was a true professional.
I called for service last month on 7/10/2015. One of his son's came out and serviced my AC, filled the unit with Freon, Acid washed and clean the coils. The price was reasonable, $200.00. The AC worked ok for exactly 35 days. Yesterday I called because the AC stopped cooling again. His other son came out today 8/17/2015. He explained that he found a leak in my unit and the part was going to cost over a thousand dollars, plus labor & other parts. My other option was to buy a new unit. He explained to me that he could temporarily repair the unit by re-filling the unit with Freon and that he could possibly fix the leak temporarily with some type of spray, but no guarantees. I explained to him I was not able to buy a new unit at this time so, I opted to get my unit re-filled with Freon and for him to do the patch work for now. He said that was going to be and additional $200 +. This was not satisfactory to me since I had already paid $200 previously. He said, if you buy a new unit, I'll take off $100.00.........Really??? I had already told him I could not afford a new unit now.
This is what I am upset about: The leak should have been detected on the first service call. During the second service visit I was told that he carried equipment that detects leaks. Why wasn't this part of the first service call, to check for leaks? Secondly, during the second service call, the lack of communication by the son. Here I sat thinking he was fixing my AC when I called him 3 hours later and he tells me he's no longer at my home. Really??? He was doing an inspection somewhere else. He could have said something to me that he had to leave. But what I'm mostly upset about is the lack of professionalism by Mrs. Thomas. When I called to speak to her husband she pretty much said, he was retired, and that I had to deal with her and her sons. She proceeded to tell me that my unit was installed over 10 years ago and that what ever her son told me is what she stands by, but worse of all, when I told her about her son leaving, she said, "well if the truck is not parked in front of your house, you should have known he wasn't there. Are you kidding me????. She didn't care about my business and told me she would just take me off as one of their customers. I couldn't believe my ears..............HOW UN-PROFESSIONAL!!!!.
