This should have taken up to a week or more to complete based upon my own research and conversations with other providers. His team came in and worked for 2 days. While traveling I was told that the floors were not looking good by my GC. I called Craig and mentioned that they should be using a peroxide solution and to cover the floors with plastic, re-applying every day. He stated that he would do this however he simply poured peroxide on the floor one time and mopped it up. He pointed out that this was an extra cost for him. Upon returning and seeing the finished product, I was aghast! There was remnants of dirty water throughout the house, inside and out and in the bathrooms where his team was pouring the gritty/slough that his machines picked up.
Walls were damaged, areas of of the terrazzo were damaged with pieces coming up and the staining on the floors was still present. It was easy to see where his team "rushed" as you could see where the machine they used missed many areas leaving somewhat of a zebra stripped effect. My GC and others saw the results and were pretty shocked as well. I called Craig and within a few hours he came over to inspect. I showed him all of the areas of concern and he then stated he was color blind and could not see what I could see.
He stated that we should now "crystallize" the floors. Mind you this is a BIG No-NO for terrazzo and a topic that Craig and I discussed weeks prior where he stated that he NEVER does that process as it permanently damages the floors. Finally I stated to him, "Craig, if this were your mother's home, would you be happy presenting it to her?" and his response was "No!"
I told him to come up with a better solution within the next few days. He said that he would hire and bring in a terrazzo shine expert to inspect. I said "Craig, aren't you the expert? Isn't that why I hired you?".
Thankfully I only paid him 50% of the job. Instead of a solution, days later he began demanding the remaining payment as he had not paid his workers and they were getting anxious. I told him that I would not make that payment based upon the poor performance and the damage his people caused.
This is where he began threatening me with a lien against my property both through voicemails, text messages and and emails. These escalated into full blown threats to the point where I had to file a formal notice of No Trespassing to him and any agent of his company.
I am going to work with the BBB to attempt to get my initial monies returned. I cannot in any good faith recommend Mint Marble or any business Craig Vance may be representing.
"Thanks for bringing this to my attention, [Member Name Removed]. We are terrazzo restoration experts and take our work and attention to customer service very seriously. It's unfortunate you chose to air your grievances in this way, instead of continuing to pursue a constructive dialogue and a path to remedy your concerns. It was always my preference to work with you until you were satisfied with the outcome of the project. The invitation is still open for you to do so."
What is more insulting is that my contractor hired a company named Pristine World Cleaners and dealt Vincent. The contract to move forward was always with Vincent. When we called for review of the floor is when Craig showed up. This is when we come to find out that his company is called Mint Marble & Stone Restoration, obviously not who we formally hired.
The next day we contacted a reputable terrazzo company and had them estimate the repair and to finish the job. This delayed our project 2 weeks needless to say Craig is now threatening to file a lien on our property and ask for an amount that is unacceptable. Not only do we have to make up time, we also need to pay someone to correct the floor and start over.
Never use this guy or this company, he is an arrogant jerk with nothing more than a pile of stories and insults. If you do then be warned.
"I appreciate the time you took to share your experience, [Member Name Removed]. With over 20 years experience in the terrazzo restoration business, I occasionally am unable to meet the expectations of clients, no matter how carefully I explain the level of damage to their old floors. Our methods are tried and true, and I made every effort to offer a remedy for your dissatisfaction at the time. Perhaps you can reach out to Pristine World Cleaners and review your original work order? Please advise."
