Karen and Don Designers Upholstery LLC

I brought in an older designed chair and Karen helped me pick out the fabric. Three weeks later I called and Karen said Don hadn't started on the chair butt it would be ready in a couple of days. The next day the chair was ready. I brought the chair home and then I noticed that the stitching on the seams was very bad. Then to my astonishment 3 other people noticed the same thing. I decided to take the chair back. When I brought the chair back I was told that they would fix the seam but that any additional cording would be $50.00. I also had to bring new fabric for the cording. I sensed a bit of an attitude at this point and was surprised they wanted to charge, they said the chair was in poor shape and the original upholstery was done by an amateur. The chair was beat up thats why I brought it to them, they were recommended to me. My partner started to question Karen on the chair and she became very defensive. After some words we were told to take the chair and to leave. Karen also said they had charged a cheap price to do the work, I can tell you that they were not cheap, they in fact were twice the price of 2 other upholsters. I have rarely seen someone act the way Karen did with her customers. We took the chair to another upholsterer a few blocks away and they were very surprised by the bad quality of the work performed. They didn't want to say too much because it might have been seen as unprofessional to criticize a competitor, however, they couldn't hide their surprise at what a poor job Karen and Don had done. After mentioning the incident with some other people who regularly upholster they told us they had heard the same thing from two other people. I imagine that Don and Karen are professionals, their shop is big, they have a lot of work, but it seems to me they have given up caring about their work or customers. Certainly their work was not the work of a professional by any standard. Their lack of basic customer service skills is just surprising. I would never use them again obviously, but I hope that I can save other people the same mistake I made in trusting Don and Karen with my chair and my money.

Went looking for someone to upholster some vintage Danish dining room chairs. Chairs were originally caned, and did not want that, but wanted cushions to be made. Needed to have them built and covered. After checking out 3 companies, came back to Karen and Don, as they were excited about our chairs, and wanted to do them. Gave many options, and checked out the many ends of bolts to save money, and picked out a wonderful piece which was perfect for the chairs. Closed the deal, and was told it could take up to two weeks, but the confidence we had in them made it worthwhile. To our surprise, two days later, got a call saying they were ready, it appeared they were excited doing them as well. They are perfect, the pattern is the same cut on all six chairs. Could not be happier. Would recommend them to anyone.

In the past, Karen has recovered my couch, two queen anne chairs and created 3 cornices. I have been very pleased with the work. This time I have three projects, the first being my dining room chairs. She now has a chair and ottoman and desk chair from my master bedroom that she is recovering. She also had someone pick up another chair and ottoman from my family room to recover. I brought home one of her material books to select material for new cornices/valences to match the dining room chairs.

This company is wonderful! They did great work and for a fraction of the price other companies quoted.

They're lovely people and well priced. They've never disappointed me ever. I am an interior designer and sometimes I have clients with deadlines and they have come through for me every time.
