Colonial Floor & Stone Care

About us

We're known as the terrazzo experts... But we're also a complete natural stone (marble, travertine, limestone, granite....) restoration and maintenance company. As the leading Terrazzo restoration and Terrazzo installation company in Florida, we at Colonial Floor and Stone Care, have turned restoration and installation into a labor of love. Even our repair work, such as removing those old ugly gouges, holes and stains, is virtually flawless and therefore invisible. Colonial Floor Care of was founded in 1986 by a Master Terrazzo repair expert who insisted on quality work and attention to detail. Today, we continue the quality tradition of Terrazzo restoration, but now also include marble and travertine cleaning, polishing, repair and maintenance. (We even have a 'proprietary poultice' to remove stains!) Additional e-mail: [email protected].

Ray and his crew were outstanding. On time, on budget and I had a great experience. Ray was honest from day 1. Our floors were badly stained and had holes from previous carpeting. I received a number of different quotes. Colonial was the best quote and my floors came out great. Most of the stains are much lighter and the patches look great. Don’t waste your time calling around. Call Ray

Excellent! I previously had my floors restored in 2003 by Colonial. The work they did then was exceptional. I now had them back to freshen up the floors and restore an area where I had taken out a wall. They look amazing! Everything was completed on time and to my satisfaction. They continue to be a top notch company.

This is the second time I used Colonial. Fully transparent, from start to finish they never guaranteed perfection. If you are looking for a company that is honest at a reasonable price. Call colonial.

I hired this company to restore the Terrazzo floor. Although bedroom floors looks ok (not great) the living room looks absolutely terrible. Stains and yellowing still present. Patches they performed do not match that great and they left a bunch of rusty nails which are visible. I was basically told to start putting hydrogen peroxide on it. I thought I hired them to restore it and now it is DIY? When I raised the issue - they kept saying stain removal not guaranteed. I totally get that but if they could not get my floors into decent shape then they should have said so and not taken my money. Attaching pics of living room areas. That just shows a few stains. Half the floor looks yellowish. They also left a huge huge mess. Dust all over everything including clumps of it in bathtub. There was zero effort to clean up anything when they left. I have worked with a lot of contractors over the years and ex husband was a GC. I have never seen a job site left in such messy condition. I texted the owner and his response was they are not cleaners. He offered to send the guys out to clean up a little bit only. At that point, I was so disappointed with the job I declined. He ended up giving me a $100 gift card. The gesture was appreciated but I would have preferred if they had properly cleaned up like all contractors do. Attaching a couple pics of mess I was left with. The crew was also not professional. I live on the water and I went on my dock and there was a cast fishing net on my dock. There was also a bunch of dirt and debris on dock which was clearly a result of the fishing. It turns out it was one of the crew fishing. I advised the person who is purportedly the owner. He didn't seem to care. Frankly - perhaps my floor would look better if his worker was not fishing on the job. I have had other companies come in to look at and give me quote to fix. They all have stated that the work performed was very poor. Also - the purported owner had me make out the check to another restoration company. So perhaps Colonial is using subcontractors. I feel like it was a bit of a bait and switch and rip off.

"First, we want to apologize for taking a few days to respond to your statement. We were a little taken back reading your review giving the fact that we walked you and your mother Ms. [Member Name Removed] throughout the entire process. In response to your recent statement. As we inform all of our customers many times (before starting and during work) stain removal is not guaranteed. You knew before starting because you called the day after we sent our proposal questioning all disclaimers and to inform us that you were planing to remove all doors as well as have a contractor plaster and sand the ceilings. In regards to having other companies look at your property, every accomplished and honest restoration company that has been in business as long as ours would never guarantee stain removal. Before the patchwork process begins we always show our customers a sample in which was approved by you (FaceTime) and Ms.[Member Name Removed] that was on site. Once patchwork was approved, we continued. Restoring terrazzo, just like any construction, home improvement or restoration project its a completely messy process and we inform all of our customers before work is started so they can plan ahead before our work is completed. We did agree to send a team to clean the areas of concern in which you declined. Furthermore, we walked you and Ms.[Member Name Removed] throughout the entire process (site walk, photos and FaceTime). All was approved and the job was paid in full. Please let us know how else we can better our communications with other customers. We strive on customer service and we did all we could to resolve any issues and responded to all concerns immediately. We apologize that you were not one of our many satisfied customers. Terrazzo is not a perfect floor. Naturally restoring a 50-60 year old floor will have imperfections. Please give us a call and we will be more than pleased to answer any questions in reference to restoring a terrazzo floor."

I got 4 quotes before picking Colonial. I liked their honesty (2 of the 4 pointed out where the problems would be and gave no guarantees the stains and deep cuts could be fixed) and price (of the 2, colonial cost much less). My terrazzo was originally a mess but the results are far better than I expected. It’s a super messy job to fix but so worth the results! Save yourself the selection process and just pick Colonial! I am thrilled with the results!

Ray kept us constantly updated and although the patches were not perfect, what can anyone expect when restoring a 50-60 year old floor. I was never hit with a surprise and am extremely pleased with their services. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a quality job at a reasonable price

It went extremely well. Every interaction with all employees, especially Ray, was extremely professional and helpful. I am very busy at work and they worked around my schedule. The floor looks great and I am very happy with the service I received. If I decide to do a full restoration of the floor in the entire house, I will, without hesitation, call Colonial Floor & Stone Care.

Every job was top knotch. I wanted something very unique on the screen porch floor. It now looks like aqua blue water drops on a sandy beach. We always get compliments. I would recommend then to anyone. Very knowledgeable and professional.

Horrible! First and foremost the lack of integrity displayed by this company is mind blowing. Ray came out and gave my husband and I an estimate as well as an overview of what the job would entail. He made us aware of the tack holes left by the carpet strip, the cracks that would remain and that the job would only take 3 days (we have about 715 sq ft) Based on the verbal estimate and what's outlined on the contract, my husband and I had realistic expectations of what the finished floors would look like. We were told to give 50% down which I authorized but this company went in even after we told them the job was incomplete and took the remainder of the balance without our authorization. To start every day the guys came out, they were late. The crew was late (2 of the 7 days they showed up at 11:30 when they were supposed to start by 9am ) The work that was done was horrible, they even tried to get away with not removing the tile underneath our stove in the kitchen, and they didn't stain/polish underneath our refrigerator and so there is a good 6 inches exposed. We were not made aware of what's called "ghosting" which I am now researched up on because everywhere we had tile there is grout dark grout lines. They plugged in an air freshener I had by my entry way upside down resulting in the hot oil spilling on the floor and leaving an orange stain on the floor. They scratched our refrigerator, our couches are destroyed and they didn't tape our air ducts so I'm certain our A/C will have issues in the near future. The stain itself was placed in splotches, they exposed medal brackets near the stairs, thought they could just paint over it and that would be sufficient. They stained my existing carpet on my stairs. The transition from the one half of the house to the other showed a line at first which then turned into a huge hideous rectangle. The half bath looks so bad! We were told by Ray that the owner would be coming over, he is conveniently out of the country for the next 2 weeks and not responding any longer to all the pictures sent over. I am a mom of 2 young children plus we are hosting a 16 year old international student from Hong Kong and need our home back in order. To say I am disappointed that this company can so easily leave clients in a bind right before the holidays is an understatement. The office phone at all three numbers goes to voicemail, Ray no longer responds and we are left with a disgusting floor and our funds fraudulently tied up. Stay away from this company!

"I recently purchased the company and am taking the time to review the grades. I apologize for your experience. I have been in the service industry most of my life and will never forget the words that one of my bosses told me. "You are only as good as your last job." I plan on running a business that prides itself on strong communication with customers and managing their expectations. Restoring floors is a craft that takes a great deal of patience and knowledge and knowing results before the work starts. I believe we have the crews that have that understanding and I hope the more recent reviews are reflecting that."

"I purchased the company in May of this year. I am very disturbed to see this rating and surprised that no attempt to respond was made. The company has been around for over twenty years and it would be certainly fair to say that during that time there have been occasions that a customer was not satisfied with the work, mostly given the fact that the floors are being restored not installed new. It would probably be also fair to say that like every business out there, perhaps there were a few bad days, employees that weren't suited for the business, etc. As an owner now, I look forward to learning from those challenges and only getting better based on the feedback from our customers. I plan to run a business based on trust with the customers, integrity in the work we perform and repeat business."

"I recently purchased the company and I am very sorry to hear about your experience. The business has been around for a long time. I plan on building up as the only source for terrazzo and floor restoration in South Florida. That can only come from integrity in what we do, trust and communication with the customer and reliability."
