At my insistence, a permit was obtained for roof repair work. Blu Sky did not want to obtain a permit for interior repairs, despite the fact I am located less than a half block away from the City Hall code inspection department. After Care Roofing initiated roof repair work, code inspector conducted a standard cap inspection and observed Blu Sky had initiated interior work in the sun room and immediately (and predictably) initiated a stop work order until proper permits were obtained.
Blu Sky did not notify me of stop work order, I found out from roofing contractor that work had been stopped. I made several calls to estimator requesting status of project and status of obtaining required permits for interior work that were never returned. At one point, project manager told me not to contact estimatro because he was no longer involved. As a result of not obtaining permits work was delayed for at least two and a half months.
Roofing contractor left roof exposed (untilled) during Miami rainy season for at least two months and referred me to Blu Sky for assistance. Project manager was inexplicably switched during this time and many calls were not returned requesting status. Only after contacting my insurer (USAA), did Blu Sky's estimator immediately respond and Blu Sky then took steps to secure roof and obtain necessary permits. After my email to USAA, Blu Sky's estimator began to provide weekly updates on status of project.
After completing project around May 2012, Blu Sky had to come back and revarnish wood ceiling panels as they utilized a flat (as opposed to existing glossy finish. By June 2012, Blu Sky had finished all punch list and clean up items.
In short, project took six months as opposed to original estimate and cost USAA around $10k as opposed to original $4k estimate. Blu Sky only became responsive to my requests only after I contacted USAA and advised of the failure to obtain proper permits, unsecured roof issue and delays.
Although the work they ultimately completed was satisfactory, it is clear that they were never concerned about their customer or my property and only became concerned when their relationship with a business referral source was placed in jeopardy.
