We had used Mike last year, but did not join Angie's list until this year.  He is a very friendly and conscientious man who takes pride in his work.  So, when the paint came out blotchy, he was more upset than we were.  The store where he always bought his paint had substituted a type, Low VOC, that he had never used before, and they assured him that it was better than what he usually used.  He went back to the store, got the right kind of paint, for free, and returned a couple of days later to fix the problem.  Since we saw it as a problem caused by the paint store, not by him, we offered to pay extra for the 3 hours that it took him to repaint the two rooms.  He refused our offer, because his professional pride would not allow him to leave an unsatisfied customer, even if it was not his fault.
