We worked through a third party on the estimate, so that took some more dealing to get the communication between all parties straight. Jim then was to begin work on Sept 7 or 8, but then called on Sept 10 to say that he wanted to begin on Sunday, Sept 11. This was then a week after our initial communication that he was interested. He was going to begin early, however, he told me later he arrived about 11:30am. I was not there and arrived a little before 3pm . When I arrived I went directly to the back and found he was taking a break with his partner on the back porch. This was my initial meeting with Jim. I had not met him before and did not know which one he was. They had very little communication with me or each other and I just thought they were both extremely tired. It was very hot. The partner left the house to go get another drink. Jim still sat there. I thought maybe Jim had heat exhaustion, then I found he had stepped on a nail. (His tetanus shots were up to date.) He tried to work for a few minutes after the partner returned, but could not handle it (the heat, the foot, the toxins-I don't really know). He asked to use the bathroom and I got up to go around to the front door to unlock the front door and then he decided, no, he would go to the gas station and also get something else to drink. When he returned, he asked for a cup, then ice in his drink, then ice in an empty gator aid bottle. No problem! By 4:00pm he couldn't do any more and they packed it up for the day leaving tools scattered around amongst the debris in the back yard. When I found a tool I just picked it up and laid it on the step of my porch rather than leaving it in the dirt. On Monday they worked until 7 pm, but I don't know when they began. Again they left tools scattered out in the dirt and debris. I picked them up again and laid them on the step. There was still lots more to do but I did not see them again until Sat. when they finished up about noon. He called me to pay him. I had been and still was ill and had someone drive me there. I didn't even get out of the car nor did I look in the back. I paid him and he said he would call Monday for the pickup. Though most of the large clean up of wood was done, there were lots of smaller pieces left. By Thursday there was still no pick up. I called the company who was picking up and found Jim had never called it in. He forgot. Before he ever began on the deck I also asked Jim for a price on removing an old porch and replacing it. I gave him my e-mail for that, but I have never gotten it even afer a reminder call.
