Project was scheduled to begin the first week of November of 2013. It was put off until the 2nd week of November and claimed to be on site early on the 11th. The team arrived just after noon and sat down on the deck to enjoy lunch and the view of the Gulf of Mexico before they started.
Scheduling never got any better. The project was always scheduled in "phases" that were determined my Jim and Jim only. There was never a coordination of time with me (The onsite Project Coordinator for the owner). In fact often (if I got a call to announce the team's arrival) it would come anywhere between 10 minutes-1 hour before arrival. Often there was no call.
Upon the team's departure of the very first day, I noticed nails all over the walkway and photographed them. I asked Tom (Jim's co-contractor) to please pick up the nails the next day. He let me know that they would blow them off the walkway. I urged them to be picked up instead. The home is located directly adjacent to a public access and walkers, kids, dogs, and all other public are within steps of the home. Tom told me he didn't need to be micro managed and that he'd been in the business for 20 years and didn't need to be told how to handle this problem.
One of the glass panels on the far west sliding glass group was installed inverted. The inside was outside. This was reported to the team in the 3rd week of December and not corrected until the second week of March.
Interior trim around window in master suite was not matched. Old trim was used and notches from the old window remained in the trim work as of the 2nd week of March.
Clean up was maybe the most neglected in terms of interior respect. Saw dust and wood debris was left in the sliding glass tracks. Glass stickers were left on the panels. Carpet was covered in debris from installation, and left. Nails we continuously left on deck.
This owner was left hanging until the very last day before having her property returned in rentable order. The quality of the final product of work was excellent. The price was reasonable. The responsiveness and punctuality were absolutely terrible…leaving the professionalism total to be moderate at best.
During the project, Jim's staff had offered that Jim had his personal home under construction and that many times they were working at his home. Many of the excuses for not coming to finish this project were due to "the weather". As a resident Project Coordinator, I was completely aware of the weather everyday. We disagree on weather being the reason to extend the project in the ways that it was.
If you have plenty of time and don't care when your project is concluded…don't mind doing th clean-up your self (for safety)…and can deal with insecurities regarding alleged "micro management"…you'll enjoy the quality that comes with this team.
If your bar is higher this might not be the team for you.
"Please keep in mind that I did not contract to do the work for [Removed member name] and received no payment from her. The work was completed and I was paid in full by the Owner with no problems. Owner lives in Texas, was never at the home until the end and met [Removed member name] the previous year when she was renting the home next door. [Removed member name] said she worked for FEMA in construction so she convinced the Owners to let her stay there and watch over the project, while she vacationed, had parties at the home and drank during the job. Don't think she told the Owners that last part??? I personally had no problem with [Removed member name] but was not going to let her dictate or make decisions for my company and that upset her. I had a deadline and I met that deadline in what was a very detailed and difficult job. Personally, I do not believe she has any professional credentials, definitely in Florida, has no license, does not work for a construction company, etc. In addition, she had no monetary contract with the Owners. In The State of Florida only a State Licensed Building Contractor can be a project manager and run a job for which the Contractor involving another contractor."
We had an emergency situation at our home. Some folks were pressure washing outside and a leak formed next to the flashing and water was streaming in under the lanai roof. We called several people but everyone was too busy to come by....UNTIL Jimmy Wheeler took my call. Jimmy was extremely busy as well....BUT he took the time out of his day to come and look at our situation.
We had just bought a new home and did not know if our roofing problem was an overall big or small one but did know that water was streaming in one area from the roof. Jimmy discovered that we had a leak by some flashing and that the previous roofer had not used the correct materials around the flashing. Our small leak" would soon turn into a large one.
Jimmy made a date to come back the next day with the needed products to temporarily fix the small leak and will come to do a larger job to fix the whole area permanently later when business slows a little.
Jimmy was a good neighbor and friend the moment we met him. We are very happy to have met him and definitely want him on our team in the future.
Thank YOU Jimmy!!
