Tom was punctual and thorough, he looked through most everything in the house.  When he was done, he met with me and discussed his findings.  He was detailed and patient, and I had plenty of time to ask all the questions I needed.  He explained every finding on his report, and assured me which ones were really important and which ones would fall under the normal-wear-and-tear category.  He was sure to use simple language so I could understand - he didn't use "builder-speak".  Even when talking about roofs and rafters and such, he explained it and made sure I understood him.
Within a couple days of completing the inspection, I received the full report in my email.  It included detailed narratives and a lot of pictures!  The written report echoed what he told me verbally, and it was nice to see some of the same explanations on paper.  Especially nice was to see was written details about why something was or was not particularly important.  He did a great job of tempering the home inspection back towards reality (sometimes the things that appear in those reports make it sound like the house is getting ready to fall down!).
The only downside is that he does not do wind mitigation inspections.  I asked, and he said he'd do it if I pressed him, but he doesn't make any money on them, and his bread-and-butter is home inspections.
