We purchased our system three years ago and had great expectations.  This house was completely rehabbed before moving in.  We had all new plumbing fixtures installed.  After the first 6 or 8 months I had called back at least three times to have explained to me why we were getting terrible spotting from the dishwasher, spots in the shower and in the sinks.  Our dog's water dish had terrible mineral deposits around the top water level in the dish.  One of our toilet flush valves clogged up twice in a little over a year and I had to replace it both times.
I had to clean the faucet aerators several times.  I couldn't believe that after soaking them in vinegar to remove the deposits from the metal, much of the finish was actually eaten off.  The drain seat in the bathtub actually had to be replaced because of excessive corrosion.  I understand how this system removes certain elements from the water to prevent scaling, but apparently it was not removing other hard elements.
As the end of the third year approached, my wife and I were so frustrated, we finally threw our hands up in the air and called our plumber to yank it and get us a standard salt softener.  All of the above mentioned problems have gone away.  I am now sorry that I threw away almost two thousand dollars on the Pelican System I bought.
I read many glowing reviews on the Pelican web site.  I should have looked at Angie's List first!

I spoke to a local water filtration specialist in my area.  I requested they do the plumbing for my Pelican Water System.  They asked me some very good questions and shared their concerns with me.  The poignant ones included how could a water filtering company in Florida know anything about the water in Santa Clarita.  I mentioned I gave them very specific details about my concerns and why I was purchasing it after several phone calls.  My local specialist reviewed his concerns with me in detail after a very long phone call where he answered every question and concern I had.  Afterwards I felt the system sold to me was misrepresented.  A water softener that does not remove the hard water does not benefit my health or my family's health in any way.  This is due to the minerals being pulverized to smaller molecules, not removed.  This essentially does next to nothing.  Our skin was extremely dry after showers due to the harshness of our water.  The system I purchased would not change that fact.  The carbon used by Pelican would not completely remove the chloramines from our water, but probably reduce them.  This too was entirely unacceptable.  To remove chloramines, which is a terrible way to sanitize drinking water, it requires catalyzing carbon and coconut be used as well.  Normal carbon takes 2x to 3x as much carbon to do the removal otherwise.  I was also sold a water system with 3/4" plumbing connections, my house has 1 1/4" copper pipes.  This would have further reduced my water volume capabilities further, which I would never do.  My local specialist brought up all of these points that I as a home owner completely overlooked or would have never known.  Fact is, pre-sales is critical for whole house water systems and one size DOES NOT fit all. I ate all of the shipping fees to and from my home and they wanted to charge me a 10% restocking fee on top of it all.  I was very upset and disappointed.  I paid via PayPal and was able to get all of my money refunded, but did not push for shipping as I planned to move on and never do business with this company again.  The Pelican system was very pricey as well.  My local guy was cheaper and very professional.  I ended up going with a whole house RO system due to health issues from our water for myself and our family.  Best filter ever from another provider.  RO=Reverse Osmosis.

Bottom line it is a do it your self company, Leave you high and dry with no real technical support.  They have no trained technicians in the state of Florida.  They will ask you to take pictures of their system and email to their technical support,  to diagnose what the problem is.  Even if you buy through a local distributor who sells their product at a trade show and you have the system shipped directly to your home from them you aren't actually a customer of theirs.   Unbelievable.  Multiple calls between me, a local plumber trying to help the situation, however racking up service call fees, labor and parts in excess of 600.00, still water stinks, not able to drink from faucets, taking showers in sulfur smelling water.  Absolutely a waste of your money time and energy. Pelican will not help you out, or work with the local plumber in trying to fix their equipment.
Extremely frustrated and taken advantage of on multiple levels.
Response from Pelican Water Systems

"Hello (removed member name), We are sorry to hear you are having issues with your system. You purchased the system through a dealer, Pur Health and not direct with Pelican. Since you did not purchase from Pelican, we cannot refund you from the purchase, you would have to contact the company you purchased from. Our tech support agent Trevor looked at your account and noticed you had not purchased any replacement/maintenance parts for your system over the past 2 years which are required to keep the system functional. We gave you the contact information of a local plumber to speak to about replacing those parts. Labor fees are not covered under warranty due to the fact that the maintenance was not done on the system per the manufacturers owners manual."

We were given the unfortunate news today that we need a totally new water softener system.  We found the Pelican Water Softener company online and looked great...sounded great!  Almost convinced to buy, we did our due diligence and searched Angie's List.  WOW!  far too many bad reviews regarding Pelican's customer service.  So I wanted to test them out myself and call to speak with them.  This Friday morning at 11am I call to speak with ANY company representative about the product and company service.  RIGHT OFF THE BAT I am told that all personnel to whom I could speak with were ALL in a meeting and would call me back at their convenience.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!  Companies that put "meetings' before customers is a business SIN.  I am SO THANKFUL I personally experienced their lack of commitment to customer service BEFORE we made the purchase!!!
Imagine how frustrated I would be if this were a call to Pelican needing help.
Poor customer reviews + my first impression with personal contact = NO SALE!!!

"Hello mrs [removed member name]. We reviewed your call to our office and found you asked to speak to a manager who at the time was in a meeting. However our customer service rep was on the phone with you available to help with any questions you had. We sell thousands of systems every month and while some are unhappy we have less then a 2% return rate. If you have any questions about our products please feel free to contact us."

The service went smoothly. They delivered the water softener within 3 days. Everything is working just fine to this day. We order the unit through the internet. I thought the pricing was very reasonable.

After a few months it didn't work any longer.  My dishes were coming out cloudy so I called them and they told me it was the rinse I needed to put in. It worked for a few days then stopped.  I decided to test the water and hired a company to come in and the water was diluted.  So I called them back and had the company call them and they wouldn't stand behind the product.  They refused to fix the problem.  There was way too much chlorine.  They will not honor there product.  Now I'm stuck with $2000 worth of equipment in my garage.  I would strongly suggest not using this company or buying anything from them.   I'm out over $3500 and had to purchase another unit from another company.
Response from Pelican Water Systems

"Hello, According to our records, we warrantied your system to you 8/15/2013 and sent you a brand new salt system free of charge to replace the system you were unhappy with. We stood behind our product and replaced the entire system for you with a new system of your choice at no charge."

The materials arrived as scheduled.  I installed the system, as specified, and put it into service sometime around December 13th.  We noted a reduction in water hardness from 785 PPM  to 240 PPM over a week period.  It seemed to be working.
In late February, I checked to see how it was doing.  We were noting an increase in water spots.  I measured the water again and obtained 614 PPM.  I contacted Pelican water for a bit of support.  I was told that it was likely the city water changed wells.  Ok, so I measured the water before the Natursoft tank and after then tank.  Both were 614 PPM.  Therefore, the Natursoft cannister was not providing any modification to the water hardness.
Given that this extremely expensive product was no longer providing any benefit, I sent a message to Pelican Customer service asking if they would support their product.   The support I sought was a refund if I returned all their equipment (I would pay shipping).  That was on 3/13/2014.  To date ( it is now 3/18/2014), the silence has been deafening.
I strongly recommend against this product.  Further examination on my part shows that many others have experienced this or similar problems.

The system was supposed to filter the water and it does a lousy job.  It seemed the water spots increased on glasses coming out of the dish washer.

After two moths of use, I still get water spotting on glass showers, still get a foamy, slightly foggy drinking water and no help when I call customer support. It seemed like the best system out there, but at 2-3 times the price of a salt system, I am certainly dissatisfied with the product.

My system has been shipped and should arrive in a few days.  The man I am working with is going to refer a plumber locally who will do the install and he is going to walk me through the whole process this week.  He gave me ideas on things I can do to speed up the install and save money.  I am so excited to have clean water in my house and increase the value of my property.  I would highly recommend this company, because their product and services are AWESOME!

It is horrible. It doesn't work, our toilet is ruined because of the hard water. When we called them about this they told us we needed to spend another $1000 for a different unit to add on. When we refused to spend more money they said we needed new filters and it still doesn't work.
We're very disappointed in the unit and we wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

For a typical water softening system, a drain is required. My utility area does not have a drain. However, this system works differently. It does not required salt. You can either get a filter or a softener. I think it uses ion chemical reaction to soften the water. You just need to change the filter every three months. So, it is very low maintenance. It runs on electricity. I paid $2,200 for the unit. I can return the unit within 30 days if I was not happy, but I have already paid for the installation. I would recommend them. There is a lot of iron in the water where I live and this system has made a huge difference. I would use them again in the future.
