I paid Matt Smurr $72,000 of $78,000 contracted job. I started noticing problems in late December 2007 when he got his last big payment and only 5% of the contract need to be paid. He said he need the money to make things happen over the next few weeks. Well, nothing happened over the holidays and I didn't think much of it. The first week of January 2008 nothing again. I started asking questions and wanted to see progress as his deadline was January 31, 2008. We weren't even close to being done with any of the projects. I started questioning many items, and he said he cannot get workers to the site. BECAUSE HE WAS NOT PAYING THEM. Things blew up when I had 3 professionals check his work on 30th of January 2008, they stated the cabinets and kitchen weren't constructed properly and were a fire hazard. He never returned to the job site. Four days later subcontractors started calling stating that they hadn't been paid and were going to put a lien against my home.
