My 11 year old Maltese became severly ill and had to spend 2 weeks in the hospital at his regular vet's office. One night our vet called and said he needed an emergency transfusion and she had called ahead to the Holly Hill emergency vet who would be waiting for us since the regular vet didn't have whole blood. We brought our dog to the Holly Hill clinic and were immediately presented with a different treatment plan to the one our vet ordered. This other vet said she knew a better treatment than the one our regular vet wanted and said our dog would die without doing this alternative. She charged us $1200 instead of the $150 we were supposed to pay with just the transfusion and this was for services not yet rendered. Also, they refused to give us a copy of the estimate saying it was "against company policy". That's illegal because you are entitled to a copy of what you're paying for. Still feeling unsure of this new treatment, we called our regular vet who had given us her home phone # for after-hours emergencies and she was livid. She asked to speak to the attending vet, then after several minutes the phone was passed back to us and she said she did not agree with this new treatment but the decision was ours. We trust our regular vet so much that we decided to take our dog to a different clinic and demanded our money back. The Holly Hill vet came out and started yelling at us that "if we take our dog out of here, he'll die and it will be all our fault!" I couldn't believe this woman was yelling at us like this, and they returned all but $400 to our credit card because supposedly they'd already started tests. We took our Maltese and rushed him to the Emergency Clinic on U.S.92 (International Speedway Blvd) where he was given the blood transfusion our regular vet ordered and they did only what she wanted done. He survived his ordeal and although he's never going to be "cured", he's maintaining his health, no thanks to the Holly Hill clinic. Beware!! They are greedy, they don't care about your pet-- they took advantage that we were heartbroken and grieving and knew we'd be willing to pay anything to save our Maltese! And they tried to guilt us into leaving him there.
