Excellent! From my first meeting with Mike, I knew they knew their business and I had that confidence in them. Their quote was not the cheapest either. Our seawall was raised from 8 - 14" above where it was (it was sagging in the middle). The team Mike sent out were here everyday, on time, cleaned up every evening and worked long hours. The office takes very good care of all permits and invoicing. A very favorable experience!

I found this company on line and it said amongst other things they do fencing. So when I called and asked, I was told they no longer do fencing and then she hung up on me with out even a thank you and goodbye. If you no longer provide a service you should change your web page to reflect this and first impressions are key and if the person on the phone is the fist impression and they are rude then your business will not be successful!!

While the crew doing the work did a good job, the owner Mike, is a real jerk. Once he had my money, he couldn't be bothered to come back for a smaller addition to the dock. Too small a job for him to bother doing. Wouldn't even come by to see what I needed. He was mad I didn't buy a boat lift from him or follow though on more decking because I went with pavers instead. I had even refered him to a friend. I talked tMike up as someone worth giving business. The friend built a huge didck iwith Mike on my referreal, and Mike couldn't be bothered to come back to do anything for me. Well, it turns out my friends are not pleased with him either. Mostly because of his attitude. They will never use him again either.

Well before the whole process, I provided them with the exact make and model of my boat -- via email.
The boat lift installation itself went pretty smoothly. I was working out of town for most of the time for the per-electrical work, but I was there for the electrical work and final adjustment.
I continued to be working out of town until about five months after the project was completed. Then I was finally able to be home and enjoy my new boat. I soon realized that I had a problem. For about 6 hours of every day at low tide, the boat was not removable from the lift at all. I contacted Mike Morrison -- the owner -- and he immediately insisted that I had gotten a new boat and the the bunks I had were not appropriate for the boat I now had. However, this was the same boat I emailed him the details of before beginning the job. It is the only boat I have ever owned. He continued to get ruder and ruder even after I re-forwarded him a copy of the email informing him which boat I had.
Then I brought up that it seemed to me that the boat lift didn't go low enough because there was a rock under one of the cross beams and that I thought it was part of the job to evaluate if the lift would go low enough at low tide to allow the boat out. He maintained that it had nothing to do with the job at all. At this point he started to insult me and then he abruptly hung up.
I wrote him an email at this point hoping for a more rational response, and he responded with more insults, but said that he would get a quote for new bunks which would be appropriate for my boat. He never did. Neither did he come by to make any adjustments to the lift to alleviate the situation that it was unusable for much of the day.

In June 2013 after a record rain our neighbors seawall collapsed which caused our pool retaining wall to fail.  We checked Angie's List and called 4 or 5 companies to estimate the repair to our property.

Initially Mr. Morrison came out and practically begged for our business and stated that he had all his own workers and NEVER used subcontractors, however due to the size of our canal he would have to use a company he partnered with to use their barge for the initial work.  He stated the job would take 10  weeks, including the permit time, which would take about 6 weeks.  Mr.  Morrison's estimate was slightly less than one of his competitors and he promised he would do a wonderful job and our yard would be much better than before.

At first everything was going well and prep work was performed to get ready for the seawall work.  We were still able to use part of our back yard and pool.  During this time his workers ate on our covered porch throwing their cigarette butts, lunch trash including chicken bones, which our dog tried to eat, and soda cans all over our yard and into our pool which we had to clean up.  We mentioned this to Mr. Morrison and he said he would take care of it.  The barge workers came in and as they worked dumped loads of dirt and concrete into our pool which ended our use of the pool.  Then they dug out too far under our fence at the property line causing our fence to sag badly.  Again, we contacted Mr. Morrison and he said they backfilled the area and it would be

OK.  Then Morrison began using other subcontractors to install the cap.  This delayed out project by about a month because he had to tear out and re-do the work.  These subcontractors urinated on the side of our house and further trashed our yard and back patio area.  These are workers that I prepared iced tea, Kool-aid and lemonade to help them cope with the heat.  They repaid me by throwing their cups in the pool and on the ground. At this time Mr. Morrison sent an email apologizing for what happened and said he let this project get away from him.  As the project drug on we became increasingly tired of delays and cleaning up behind his workers to use our remaining property.  Had this taken the 4 weeks he stated it would take after the permit was issued, we probably could have handled it.  At this time it had dragged on a total of 17 weeks.  He had finally replaced the seawall, retaining wall and was working on filling in behind the seawall and re-sodding our yard.  This is when his workers had to spend a day bringing in dirt and sand to fill in at the property line which was not backfilled properly and caused our yard and fence to sag badly.  They propped up the fence with 2x4" hammered in adjacent to the PVC fencing.  His concrete people busted our front driveway which he patched. Mr. Morrison, at this time, started telling us what a great job he had done and instead of pointing out things that were not right, we should be praising him for doing the job we had paid him to do.  His estimate was in-line with another estimate we had, but beat them by a couple of thousand dollars, this was a $50,000 job and a couple of thousand was not worth the headache we endured  We still had to have the pool deck pavers completed, and we didn't feel like he had properly repaired our fence  We also had a punchlist we put together of things we thought should be completed.

Before the work was completed Mr. Morrison contacted us and demanded final payment.  He threatened us through the following email stating that he would be a "witness" for our neighbor who was suing us for damages to their property.  The email is as follows:

I am not sure which one of you is writing this not that it matters.  Lyn, I am finished w your project. It has received all the inspections required and it is per the contract.  I have taken a total disaster and restored it perfectly.  I fought the building dept and won over their code that says retaining walls Could not go on the cap thus saving you about $5000 in pin piling work. I have filled in your yard and planted new grass where weeds were. I leveled and graded your patio where it was a washed out uneven s***** mess. I have gone FAR FAR above and beyond to make your job as good as it is!  I WILL NOT TOLERATE YOUR PETTY A** COMPLAINTS about the patio chairs, spilled soda, chicken bones or other stupid crap. It I am sorry for those minor inconveniences. I'm sorry my men need shade and a place to eat while killing themselves to do a good job despite all your complaining. I'm sorry your yard and pool was a mess during this process. It was unavoidable but is now all clean just like any other job site in Florida. .  If this job is not paid in full today here is what i am prepared to do for you:    I will provide both of your neighbors all of the expert opinions, reports, and engineering that will more than adequately prove that your Seawall and the unstable overloaded upland caused the Seawall failure and subsequent damages to their properties. I will testify under oath that your negligence caused all the damages.  How would you like to be paying for TWO MORE SEAWALLS?  Yes it was most certainly your wall that caused all that damage and I can prove it!  So let's cut the crap. I'll be over at 5:30 to get paid. We shall shake hands and I will go away and keep my mouth shut and you will write an A nice report to Angie's list.  Ok? See you at 5:30.

Michael Morrison, President Morrison Contractors, Inc.

Have a Great Day!  954-583-8500 [email protected]

We do have a detailed engineering report stating the exact opposite of what Mr. Morrison threatened us with.

Mr. Morrison is a hot head who has a questionable relationship with code enforcement.  His emails ran the gamut of being sorry for the delays and shoddy work practices to vicious verbal attacks and virulent accusations.

I hired Morrison to install a new 14X14 dock with built in benches on a small lake in my backyard. They also removed an old chain link fence and reinstalled a new one four feet back from where the previous one was located. They were very professional and the price they quoted was half the price of a previous quote I had received. Mr. Morrison himself came out to do the quote. He gave me suggestions and showed me exactly where everything would be located, he was very thorough. The dock went in extremely fast, it took less than 2 days. The fence took a little longer to go in but everything was completed in less than a week. The dock is beautiful, it exceeded my expectations by far. The built in benches are wonderful, very comfortable and a nice bonus to the dock. I had a few issues with the fence and the placement of the gate and they came out a couple different times to fix it until I was completely satisfied. Due to the placement of the gate it was only able to open one direction and the chain link itself was installed upside down with the points sticking up on the top. When I first saw this I was worried it would be an issue to have it fixed but they never made me feel like I was hassling them when I called them a couple times to fix the issues. They came out right away to address the issues and kept coming out until I was completely happy. They were very understanding and apologetic and Mr. Morrison came out personally to oversee the redoing of the gate. I would definitely recommend them!

When our neighbor recently put his house on the market it came to our attention that our dock infringed on his property?.and not by a few inches more like three feet on one corner.
There were two different inspections done on the "for sale" property.  Both inspections found the same thing?.our dock infringed on that property.
My neighbor wanted the problem rectified so that he could complete the sale of his property.
I wrote a letter to the owner of Morrison Contractors Mr. Mike  Morrison's explaining the situation.  In the letter I provided a copy of the original contract, outlined the problem and asked  that he remove that portion of our dock that infringed and leave our dock in a "finished" condition.  The letter was sent certified return receipt..
I didn't get a response to my letter so I followed up with a call to his office.  Cheryl answered the phone.  She asked why I was calling and I told her I was following up on a letter to Mr. Morrison.  I asked to speak with him.  Cheryl said she'd have to see if he was in his office.  I was put on hold and when she came back on I was told he wasn't in the office.   She then asked why I was calling and I explained.  During that conversation the subject of permits came up. She asked if the city signed off on the permit.  I said yes.  Her response was "well then it's not our problem.  Plus, it was so long ago you can't expect us to do anything."
I went on to say that I had contracted  with Morrison Builders for a new dock, I paid for the dock as agreed upon, that Morrison Builders built the dock and apparently part of that dock they built was over the property line.  I felt that they should remove the offending portion of the dock.  I said that I'd like them to come out to look it over and to discuss a solution.
I never got a return call. No one every came by.  I called again and was once again told Mr. Morrison wasn't available.
I realize that the dock was put in 13 years ago.  But, wouldn't you think that someone that is still in the business of putting in docks would care about his reputation?  Obviously, Morrison Contractors does not stand behind their work nor care about their reputation.
My problem was "fixed" by Broward Dock and Seawall, Inc. (954) 557-3775.  They did a fantastic job.  You would never know that they removed nearly 3 feet of decking at one corner removed a piling, and the existing railing.  A new piling was sunk, the decking and railing were reattached the electric was moved and all was trimmed out.
The finished product looks perfect.

"This members letter is a perfect example of what is wrong with Angie's. The member has written to complain about a job built 13 years ago! Since that time any of a 1000 things may have transpired on the dock since we built such as modifications or other added work. This dock was built with a building permit issued from the city and has passed all required inspections. Furthermore the owner has enjoyed the use of the dock for 13 years without one issue. Some of the other key flaws with this bogus complaint is that the member was advised that we would make repairs, but charges would apply on a time and material basis. The response from the member was that she demanded we take care of this issue for free of charge! Another key point is that this company in question is no longer in business! This company has a similar name but is not the company that performed the work. At the time this project was built neither the member or this company were even members of Angie's.. Last and most Importantly is that I contacted our account manager about the above issues and requested that the complaint be taken off of our profile because of the fact it is on a different company. Angie's told me too bad that is not our policy. A member can write in ANYTHING ABOUT ANYONE FOR ANY REASON!! I find that to be so alarming and dangerous to our companies great reputation that I am resigning my membership effective immediately. When a company like Angies's will not stand up for what is right and fair especially when it is affecting our rating and reputation I have to say enough is enough. If you own a business and you are a member just know this: Anyone can say horrible things about you EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT A CUSTOMER!!! They can even post a F on your report card for not returning a phone call! I cannot afford to let this site and some of the hateful members ruin a reputation that I have nurtured for 25 years. This site is nothing more than a platform for haters to hurt your business! Respectfully and truthfully submitted, Signed, Michael Morrison, President of Morrison Contractors."

I called and spoke to a friendly woman who gather some information on what I was interested in doing.  I have a floating dock in my backyard on a lake that needed repair.  She told me Mr. Morrison would call me back with a "ball park" figure of what something like that would cost.  If I was interested then they could probably schedule me for the end of the week when he had some time open on his schedule.  I never heard back from anyone so I called back and left a message for the woman.  She called me several hours later and told me "Mr. Morrison can't do the job.  He didn't give me any reason, just said he can't do it.".  Never even got to speak to the man.

However, we are unable to generate each inquiry into a Morrison Family customer. Some inquires are out of our service area; others are repairs or add-on’s to unpermitted existing structures ¬– which we do NOT undertake at all. There may be other extenuating circumstances in which we would be unable to take on a specific job, but it is our policy to give a concise explanation to each inquiry. Mike Morrison was great to work with. I grew up in Fort Lauderdale and have seen well built Morrison projects over many years, I was glad to see that the reviews on Angie's List reflected the quality of the projects.
Mike quickly responded to my inquiry through AL and set up a meeting to give me an estimate on repairing my dock, he arrived on time took some quick measurements and asked a few more questions. He gave me an idea of what he thought the job should cost and had a written estimate to me that night.
We agreed on the price and within a few days his crew was on the job, they worked cleanly and quickly. As the job progressed I thought of a couple of additional items and Mike was quick to respond and make the changes. They finished on time and Mike did everything that he said he would do -- and he took care of my add-ons in stride.
We are enjoying our beautiful new dock --
I would highly recommend Mike to friends and family -- and I will definately use him again.

It was such a painless and outstanding experience! After carefully and seriously considering the 5 bids I had obtained I finally decided on Morrison Contractors. As a woman and this being my first contract negotiated alone I really appreciated the patience and explanations Mike afforded me and my endless questions. I was also quite reassured with their Better Business Bureau membership and A+ rating. The craftsmanship of their work is exceptional, the materials used were of the highest quality and uncompromised. The employees were punctual, skillful, organized and professional. At the end of each workday care was taken to store materials out of the way, the job site was at all times cleared and uncluttered. The end result is magnificent! I was shocked how efficiently the scope of all this work was completed in about one week! Immediately after the initial deposit the work began and progressed so fast I had to make the payment due at 50% of work completion and the amount due upon job completion at the same time! It was like magic! It is so refreshing to be able to trust and have faith in a contractor. I was able to relax and leave the job to the experts. Mike and his crew are perfectionists. Cheryl in the office coordinated my requests and my calls were given immediate attention by Mike Morrison himself. He even supplied me with his cell phone number but never did I have to bother him as Cheryl makes sure he receives all his customer communications and he responds. I honestly feel that I got what money can't buy these days......reliable services from a company that exhibits old fashioned work ethics, a knowledgeable well run company that makes no excuses because they don't have to! Impressive services rendered well before the estimated completion date. Superior building supplies at reasonable costs. There is no question I will forever be using Morrison Contractors as I have several waterfront properties in Florida.

$20,000
I hired Morisson builders based on a referral and overall reviews on Angies list. The owner Mike came out to meet with my husband and I in June, he seemed very professional. They were hired to expand and rebuild a wooden dock, including an aluminum fence around the deck, the price was $20,000. The job was estimated to take approx 2-3 weeks. They started on May 12, the deck/dock went up without any problems, in fact I was originally pleased with all the contractors, they were neat and organized and had completed the deck on May 24th. I had paid them $15,000 at this point. As per contract the last installment of $5000 was due at time of completion. The only thing left to finalize the job was to install the aluminum railing and have city inspections. We had chosen aluminum rather than wood for it's low maitenance. At the time of the original meeting I explained to Mike I wanted the same color aluminum fence as my existing fence. He assured me it would match, be powdercoated and would in fact be better quality than what I already had. On May 24th I e-mailed Cheryl inquiring when the railing was to be installed, she told me apparently there were issues with the aluminum. On July 14th (7 weeks had gone by) the owner Mike called my husband and asked if we could do him a "personal favor" and pay him half of the balance ($2500). At this point it seemed extremely unprofessional and I explained no, the job was originally to be completed in 2-3 weeks, here we are 8 weeks later and it is not completed. I informed him I was abiding his contract and the remaining $5000 would be paid when the job was completed. More time went by, no fence. Finally the first week of Aug the fence was installed. As they were installing it I noticed it was scratched everywhere, if you even touched the fence the paint would peel off, every spot where they had put a screw in was chipping. It was extremely low quality and not what we were told we were getting, it was spray painted, not powdercoated. We immediately contacted Mike and informed him of the problem. He told us over the phone he knew the paint job was bad he just wanted the inspection to pass and he would remove the fence after it passed inspection and have it sandblasted and powdercoated and then re-installed. I informed both Mike and Cheryl as of Aug 15th we would be out of town for 6 weeks, I was hoping to wrap this project up prior to leaving, and was not going to make the final payment until I was able to inspect the quality of the fence. They were well aware of this and said they would have it re-installed prior to me leaving. On aug 10th they showed up to re-install the fence. As they were installing it we noticed the color was a completely different color, it did not match up to our existing fence, on closer inspection they had powdercoated over the top of the spray paint and never sandblasted it, also the color was pastel green and it should have been a hunter green. The installers agreed the color was completely wrong and said they had mentioned this to Cheryl and Mike but they were told to install it anyways. We called Mike, he showed up an hour later with his railing sub-contractor Tim. We explained to him the job was of poor quality, he had promised us it would be sandblasted than powdercoated and the reason we had chosen this product was for low maitenance. Mike went completely wild, saying the job was (profanity) etc etc, screaming and carrying on like a lunatic, throwing color charts at me and swearing nonstop, Tim had kept telling him to calm down. Fortunately we live in a gated community because we had to call security to escort him off our property as he was throwing pieces of aluminum all over the place and making a scene. Tim then tried to control the situation and agreed to remove the fence again and install what we had actually paid for and was originally told we were getting. He said Mike knew the fence was low quality but wanted the inspection to pass so he could get paid. Tim said he would do his best to finish it prior to us leaving. At this point everyone knew we were not going to make the final payment until we returned home. (BTW Nobody from Morisson called, e-mailed or apologized about the incident.) Aug 15th rolls around we are in our car about to leave for 6 weeks we get a call from Tim saying he is there to install the new fence. Fine, we agreed to let the gatehouse let him in. Next day, he needs to come in again, fine we let him in even though we weren't there. Numerous times, I'd say at leat 2 or 3 other times we granted him access to work on the fence while we were out of town. We happened to come home for 3 days the first week of Sept, fence still was not complete, we called Tim, he said he would be over to finish by the time we left again. Of course, he calls us the day we are leaving and wants to come in, fine we let him in to finish. Cheryl calls me and asks if Mike can have access to my property to take photos of the railing, I explained since we had to call security the last time he was on my property, there was no way he was allowed on my property, especially when I am not there. On Sept 10th I receive a threatening e-mail from Cheryl saying Morisson builders is putting a lien on my property because we have not allowed Tim access to work on the fence. I informed her the gatehouse keeps a log of who enters the property and would be happy to get her a copy of the amount of days he has spent at my house. Meanwhile they knew well in advance we were leaving for 6 weeks, they were not going to get paid until we inspected the fence, nobody was even suposed to be working at our property when we were gone, we were so fed up with the process so we allowed them access when we weren't home and the fence STILL wasn't done and now THEY are putting a lien on my property!!! We returned home on Oct 3rd, I sent Cheryl an e-mail, I am home, when is Tim coming to do the final touch ups on the fence, no response, tues Oct 5th, I sent another e-mail, no response. Wenesday I get a call from Tim, he comes by and apologizes to me for lying to Morrison builders ,he apparently kept telling them I was not giving him access and could not get in to work on the gate. Finally on Oct 6th, 5 months later, the job is finished, they apparently released the lien which I still need to research. I would NEVER refer them or recommend them at all. The lack of unprofessionalism, lying, frustration etc that we have had to deal with is absurd. In this day and age companies like this should be out of business.

In my defense, the story should contain the positive part that the member is, in fact, 100% satisfied, received everything they contracted for, and the inspections by the city are all complete. The scope of this project was to build a big deck connecting to a dock that has aluminum railing around it. The project was moving along beautifully and the wood work of the deck and dock were completed without any problems. The member was delighted. The problems arose when it came time to match the color of an aluminum rail fence that existed elsewhere on the property that was 10 years old and faded. The initial results were poor, I admit. I removed the work twice and tried my best to satisfy the member. At this point, they were losing confidence so I hired an outside subcontractor to complete the aluminum rail. The subcontractor is known to be a specialist, and in fact was a paint (powder coat) contractor. This subcontractor also failed miserably. Matters became much worse. The colors did not match and the member was beyond consolation. But to our credit, in the end, we got the job done right. I do regret any ill feelings. The member ultimately has perfect railing in the right color and the job is 100% complete. I strive to treat all customers fairly and courteously offering them the best services and workmanship in town. I am not a “lunatic” (their word) or mean person. I feel that this member has gone too far in making this a personal assault upon me, which is evident by the (6) F’s given and the lengthy amount of derogatory commentary. Please see all of my other great reviews for accurate representation of my work."
