"We undertook a comprehensive landscaping project that involved removing and replacing all weeds and previous plants in the front beds, installing a weed barrier, and adding mulch. We advised the client about the need for proper watering and noted that the existing soaking lines were outdated. The plants between the house and the septic tank, as well as those around the pool, presented significant challenges due to 45 years of growth and severe root systems. We had to use a tractor to remove them. At no point were we informed about the location of the septic tank. The only underground system mentioned was a small lift station on the left side of the garage, which the client said was added for an additional bathroom. We learned about the septic tank only after its lid fell in, at which point the client explained he had avoided connecting to the city sewer due to the $15,000 cost. He then arranged for his contact to replace the lid, deducting the cost from our "bonus." The removal of 14 large boxwoods around the pool was another significant task. These plants' extensive root systems disrupted the paver borders, but no plan for replacing the pavers was discussed. The dirt provided for spreading was primarily hard clay, some of which had hardened into rock, making it impossible to distribute as desired. Despite our efforts and communication with the client, this issue could not be resolved. We worked late to remove grass from the septic tank cap, addressing all concerns as they arose. Regarding tardiness, any delays were due to external factors, such as the mulch facility not opening until 8 a.m. Despite these challenges, we completed all expected work to the best of our abilities. The client frequently expressed satisfaction, inviting us to stay for a beer each night and even giving our helpers a bonus. On the second evening, while waiting for payment, the client lectured us about timeliness but eventually paid the agreed amount, stating that additional payment was withheld to cover the cost of the septic tank lid. As for the neighbor's property, we were never on it. The neighbor had marked the property line with flags, which we respected. At the end of the project, we walked the property with the client to confirm satisfaction. The client reiterated approval of our work and again provided bonuses to our team. Given these facts, we are unsure of the nature of the current issue, as all tasks were completed to the agreed-upon standard."
