It started off well - they seemed enthusiastic and able to accomplish any task - the job was supposed to take 2 weeks. They started on 3-31-14. The first 10 days were good, there was lots of communication.
Positives: The new siding is fine and the paint on the outside walls. The new windows are great. The bedroom ceiling fan, weather stripping and exhaust fan are fine too.
Issues:
1. The job took a long time - after the first 2 weeks of work, they were always too busy to come back and finish. Sometimes there were promises they'd be back, excuses and then no one would show up - this happened 3-4 different times. Numerous calls, texts and emails went unanswered. It was very frustrating. The wiring on the outside of my house was left lying on the ground for over 2 weeks in April - I had to keep asking to have it put back up. They put construction trash in my recycling bin and I could not use the bin for 6 weeks. In late May, Mike wanted a "punch list" to complete. I sent it to him and he finally came by to finish it up on 6-2-14. There were over 30 items on that list. He checked off most of them as being done - they were not.
2. The new bedroom carpets have some sharp nails that stick up through them - family members have stepped on them - very painful!!
3. Brand new sliding glass door - some of my vertical blinds were broken in the process of installing the new door - they were laid across my couch! I now have to replace them and I cannot get the same color now - this will cost $80 to replace them all. Also they screwed in the door handle from the outside!! Anyone could have unscrewed it easily.
A new baseboard was created because the new glass door frame was smaller than the old one - a beveled step board was placed there, but not painted or sealed in any way.
.4. The main bathroom - A. The brand new bathroom flooring has a 10-12" curved cut in it near the base of the toilet - they miscalculated where the new toilet would go. The flooring will have to be replaced AGAIN. The flooring in the closet is very sloppy in how it was cut and the edges were filled in with caulk.
B. The new bathroom flooring started coming up in one corner almost immediately.
C. New toilet tissue holder was held up with caulk and fell off within the week.
D. The brand new pedestal sink - the drain does not go up and down - I asked him to fix this 3 times. It still doesn't work.
E. Brand new toilet - the hardware for it looks old, dirty and rusty.
F. New bathroom door - only painted with a light primer; there is messy paint on the hinges and the brand new doorknob. The part of the door hardware that clicks into the frame is not set correctly and it looks awful. This was a brand new doorknob and door!
G. New paint in bathroom is a little sloppy around the edges (the baseboards, edges of walls, around the shower) and there are a few places where the paint is very light, so the wall shows a little.
H. They broke the closet doorknob.
I. Main bathroom door frame - the wood door frame is blue. The wood frame all around is damaged, places in it are gashed. A messy white substance is in some of the gashed parts, as if it was damaged and someone was going to fill it in...? On the left side it looks like someone rammed something against it. Some sort of messy white primer is across the top board of the door frame. It looks slopped on and left there, like someone was going to paint it and then stopped? Painting this door frame was not part of the agreed job. I don't understand what happened here or why. Also at the bottom right of the door frame, it looks like a chunk of wood was knocked off and then someone tried to fill it in with white (caulk again?)
J. The brand new bathroom mirror is hung too low and only has holders attached on the top and one side. I'm concerned it could fall.
K. The plumbing parts for the brand new toilet and sink have sloppy green paint on them.
L. They broke my shower curtain rod and tried to tack it back up with something (looked like caulk?).
5. The Master Bath - brand new door is damaged around the new doorknob. The paint is very light thin primer. There is sloppy paint on the hinges and the new doorknob. The part of the door hardware that clicks into the frame is not set correctly and looks awful. He said he owed me a new door on 6-2-14, but has never communicated with me again. This was a brand new door and doorknob!
A. The toilet was replaced and when it was done - the old flooring was damaged. It spans about 8-9" around the base of the toilet - the flooring is cracked and broken.
6. There is a part in the siding to the right of the garage where the wood fell down loose. I repeatedly asked about it; it was never fixed. Also a long piece of board (siding) was cut too short.
I have family and friends who are appalled with the results in the bathrooms, the glass door and the nails in the carpet.
I also spoke with someone at Lowe's about the glass door hardware being attached backwards and they were shocked that a licensed contractor did this. I have pictures of most of this, if needed.
