Brent (Rembrent) is a true artist! He went way beyond simply painting our house. He became a trusted advisor who, working with our interior designer, helped us get exactly the look we wanted; he had a sense for when we were struggling and/or were not entirely sure that what our designer was suggesting was what we were looking for, and he willingly stepped in and gave his opinion, and often made a suggestion that resolved the issue. As an example, we struggled to find a color scheme for our family room/living room/dining room that pleased my wife, our designer and me. Brent came up with a faux painting solution that, by blending colors, gave us the impact and the lightness that we were looking for. He did quality work, and took the time to do things the right way, even when they were more time-consuming or costly.
Since the work was done, people who come to our house for the first time are often surprised that the faux-painted areas aren't wallpapered. They are also amazed that our bedroom furniture, which Brent painted, isn't real wood. That's a reflection on his artistry.
In addition to getting the job done, he was a joy to work with. Brent showed up when he said he would, and was pleasant to be around. He always strove to make sure we were satisfied with the outcome. In the cases where we weren't sure of our choices, his attitude was, "Let's give it a try. It's only paint. If you're not happy, we can always redo it." In the one or two cases where we weren't completely happy, he repainted the room for only the cost of the new paint, with no additional charge for his time; he never tried to nickel-and-dime us. He worked with us to accommodate our schedule, so that we could stay in the house while he was painting, even when it meant doing things in an order that weren't the most logical or efficient for him. He was also willing to help us with little things during our remodeling when he was around, like hanging a picture, a mirror or towel bars. By the end of the process, we considered Brent a friend as much as a contractor.
Two years later, we're just as happy with the job he did as we were initially. When we need to paint again (hopefully not for many more years), we hope Brent will still be around to do the job for us. I don't often make recommendations for subjective kinds of work (being pleased with a painter is different and more personal than being pleased with an electrician or plumber, who either does what he says he'll do or doesn't), but I would unhesitatingly recommend Brent to anyone who asked.
We can't say enough good things about Brent/Rembrent! He is a true artist. He has a great eye, and helped us pick out colors when we couldn't figure out what to do. He worked well with our interior designer, and wasn't afraid to speak up when he disagreed with her or with us. He seemed to sense when we weren't completely comfortable with certain suggestions/decisions and helped us work through them. A prime example of this was his suggestion for faux painting in several areas of the house. We initially thought we'd do that only in the bathrooms, but when we couldn't come up with a color scheme for the great rooms that was complementary to our other décor and was visually appealing to us, he suggested a faux finish that was perfect. In the few cases where things didn't look right after he painted, he was always willing to redo it in another color, usually only for the cost of the new paint.
Since we had the painting done, people have often been surprised that the faux finish wasn't wallpaper, and they can't believe that our painted laminate bedroom furniture is not wood. Almost two years later, we're still completely satisfied with the choices he helped us make, and with his workmanship.
In addition to the quality of Brent's work, he was a delight to work with. He showed up when he was supposed to, was always pleasant, and worked with us on the order in which things were done so that we were able to stay in the house while the painting was going on, even when it wasn't the most efficient order for him to do things in. He was careful and neat when he worked, and always cleaned up when he was done. His prices were fair, he didn't try to nickel and dime us every time we changed our minds on something, and he was always willing to help out with minor handyman projects (like putting up towel racks, hanging large pictures or mirrors, etc.). By the end of the job, he was a family friend, not just a workman.
We would have not reservations about recommending Brent to friends, something I rarely do when the outcome is so subjective (unlike a plumbing or electrical job, where either the work was done right or it wasn't).
he did several samples to choose from.
The finished product was exactly like the sample.
He removed some old speaker covers that he thought were ugly, (he was right about that) and patched the openings.
I liked the color I already had on the wall and wanted to stay with the same color so I wouldn't have to start changing everything. I had a quart of paint that I recently purchased for touching up so I took the lid with all the info to the same place. The little dot they put on the top of the lid looked like the same color but it turned out to be about two shades lighter. I had purchased the trim color to go with the original wall so the trim color was much darker with the new shade.
Brent offered to stop painting if I wanted to take it back, but since he was already started, there wasn't much sense in screwing up both his and my schedules. I decided to go with what we had let it grow on me.
"wow, amazing what $5, will do. I enjoyed working with him. If all my experience's with Angie's list is like this one I'll be a happy guy. Lovely people so far"
