He arrived at 11 AM, an hour late, which would have been less of a problem were it our home, but it was a unit we rent. He immediately went to work. He brought in a second person later in the afternoon to complete the work. The carpet was what we ordered, and the installation was done very well.
There were two minor issues, one was that he arrived an hour later than expected, which when you consider that most companies give you a window of 4 or more hours, is not unreasonable. He did call my home and left a message saying he would be late but we had already left. The second was that he underestimated the amount of carpet needed. Actually on this second item he had estimated correctly originally, but when I indicated that it was more than I estimated by about 10 yards, I was able to convince him that my estimate was correct (it wasn't, because I hadn't included the stairs.) On the day of the install when he realized that he was short, he offered to provide the additional carpet for free because it was his mistake. I insisted on paying for the extra, because I contributed greatly to the problem.
Did everything go perfectly, no, but things seldom do, and I believe you can tell more about a person/company when there is a problem and how they handle it than when things go perfectly. In this case Carlos/CAV Carpeting did everything I could have asked, and I would recommend them to anyone.
The only thing I would recommend for other members, and for Carlos as well, is to have a worksheet that shows the areas to be carpeted, and put the carpet needed for each area on it. Carlos is good, but when working with numbers in your head things can be overlooked.
