Signed a contract with American Constructors and Renovators Inc. on February 12, 2018 today is May 10, 2018. Paid the company $4600 down payment. Have not received any construction service, no communications to date. Have called 8 times, emailed 5 times and wrote certified mail request for status. Company has not responded. Keep placing the blame on permitting associated with the project. However, it took the company 5 weeks to even request an architect a step required before the permitting starts. As a Project Manager for construction in the Federal Government. I would not recommend this company to build a dog-house for me again. Rodger O Young

Warning! Warning! From their own mouth American Constructors and Renovators (ACR) warned us about themselves. When they gave us their written list of references they had Angies List on it. To our detriment we did not look them up. Had we done that we would have found every one gave them "D" and "F" reviews. And they lived up to those reviews with us. We had to cancel, luckily before they did the bigger portion of the job that required permits. However, we were made to forfeit our $1000 deposit, even though we had to have 75% of all the work they did redone. Plus to cancel we had to pay them another $200 to get them away from us. My wife and I turn 70 on our next birthdays and we were so afraid of this company, we believed harm would come to us if we had to interact with them again. A very nice young friend of ours was visiting when the ACR collector came for his $200 and handed them the check. We are grateful we did not have to speak with them again. If you are reading this remember ACR themselves told us to use Angies List. They think just mentioning Angies List people would think that they received good reviews. So please be warned!

Wow...how did it go? NOT GOOD!! Drainage issues still persist due to the contractor not removing all of the existing thinset at the outer edge of the balcony, hence a barrier was left where water had no way to exit the balcony! In addition, when the skim coat was applied to the surface, many areas were left bare hence water pools at these locations as well! The contractor insisted that this is NOT the case and that when he inspected the property I was happy. He only inspected the property because I had told him about the issues and indeed was NOT happy. He then told me that for $600.00 he would come out again to fix these problems and it was my fault because I had not touched upon slope for drainage!! THE WHOLE JOB WAS TO ALLOW FOR DRAINAGE!! There is more...but I will just leave it alone!! I am now in the process of filing with the BBB, as the contractor will not return calls and brushes us off via e-mail! We now have to hire someone else to come in and fix their mess!!!! Read the reviews about these guys elsewhere on the web...I am not alone in my experience! I would avoid them!!!

When we requested an estimate, we gave a general description of what we wanted with certain specific items. The work was to begin on Monday. The contractor showed up on Monday with his project lead. After reviewing the work to be performed, the lead left to purchase supplies and would start later in the day. He didn't return that day and although supposed to start at 8am each day, didn't show up until after 9am. A 7 day job turned into 12 days because the workers didn't arrive until between 9 and 11 each day, took 1 1/2 to 2 hour lunches, and left most days between 3:30 and 5:30. The project was poorly planned and they had to purchase supplies daily. The project lead refused to discuss the project or his progress in spite of repeated instruction to do so from the contractor. They made a mess of the house, the work was substandard (uneven subfloor, rough drywall, never installed an access door although they were reminded several times - they just left it leaning against the wall), complained constantly about my request for no texture on the walls which was part of the original request. At the end of the project, we just accepted the work as is and decided to finish the work ourselves. The contractor refused to come for a final inspection and review of the job. This was the most unprofessional company we have ever used. Although we plan more remodeling in the very near future, this is not a company we would ever consider again.
