After it took 5 months to almost complete a job that should have taken 3 days I think I can safely say I wouldn't recommend this company. The wood needs to be removed in order that the concrete underneath can be properly prepared and leveled for wood installation. Employing this company was an expensive mistake to make.
I would use them again, and recommend them to anyone getting a quote on tile installation.
We were able to bring them into the house to see how they would look. This was a plus. Frank was very knowledgeable and helpful.
The guys were always on time and worked late every day. They started the project a couple days early which made us happy. Jim did a fantastic job on the tiling. It is obvious that he knows what he is doing. I enjoyed talking with him on several occasions. we hope to have our bath tiled and would use no one else but Jim from Frank Hollinger and Son.
One tile installer made a recommended change for the flooring in the bedroom/office area. We took his advise and are extremely pleased on how that floor appearance and installation came out.
I have been very impressed with this company and the service they provided
I would not hesitate to use this company for any other projects of this type.
We had a very bad experience with this company. We were sold porcelain tile for the seamless nature of the product, but the install was extremely sloppy. We would constantly trip over the seams of the tiles because many of them were installed unevenly.
We had also stressed the tight timeline of this project to get completed over a specific time period. It did not meet the deadline, and we never saw any attempt by the installers to arrive earlier than late morning or stay later than 3-4 pm every day. They ran out of tiles, and had to order more, which delayed the project finishing on time even more. To make up for it, they tried to sell us on a different tile that they had in stock instead of the one we ordered - who would ever agree to put in mismatched tiles? Therefore, we had to wait for new tiles to come in because they didn't order enough to complete the job.
Lastly, these people p***** on our house - literally. One of the workers went to the bathroom on our home, in front of our next door neighbor, and it left a huge yellow stain on the side of the house. Our next door neighbor come over and let us know immediately - it was disgusting and embarrassing.
I could go on with other issues, like how they ruined several floor boards, ripped the paint off the wall taking off the floor boards, and left the installed tiles filthy, but that should give you the overview.
The only reason we do not give them an F for this job is because Mike came out and spoke with us regarding our issues, and he was a reasonable person who seemed to care about the job and wanted to make up for what he could, such as the paint, cleanliness, floor boards, but at that point there was little to be done and we wanted to be rid of these people from our home. I will say they did clean up the huge urine stain too, and Mike was visibly embarassed for their staff's behavior.
He also only came out because we insisted on speaking with Frank (the owner who sold us on the tile and project), but we never saw Frank again after hiring them initially. No one from the company took initiative on their own to ensure we were satisfied with the project. About a week or 2 after everything was completed, we got a message from one of their employees on our machine saying "I'm calling because you said you wanted to meet with Frank and have him come over." That was just the icing on the cake.
flooring in 2 rooms. Once completed the floor looked outstanding. They
created little dust and they cleaned up after their work so that you
would not know they had been there. I would highly recommend them.
I was at first given an estimate which was several hundred dollars more than what I had been quoted by other companies. I explained to Frank that his estimate was not competitive with the other companies and I informed him of the other quotes. Frank was unsure if he could match the estimate but stated he would get back to me. Approximately 20 mins after leaving my house he called and said that he could match the estimate.
After that I never received a call informing me when the work would begin. In fact I had to call their office several times and was told A date that the installer would start. The date came and the installer did not show up which irked me since I had taken the morning off of work to be there to let him in. My sister in law was kind enough to stay at our house and the installer showed up after lunch time (was supposed to start at 9AM). The installer worked a few hours and returned the next day, worked a few hours and left the house around 3PM. I was told the installation would take approximately 3 days. After the first two days I realized that this install was going to take much longer than that. I also noticed that the quality of the installation was marginal at best. To ensure that I was not just being picky I called a friend who was a contractor but unable to work due to a medical illness. He looked at the floors and informed me I was not being picky and measured the gaps in the flooing to be greater than 1/16 of an inch. In some areas the height difference was 1/8 of an inch and at once corner was 1/4 of an inch. I spoke with the installer about the uneveness of the travertine to which he became offended and argued that the install was fine, sliding his level across the tile to show me it was level. I then showed him where the tiles were not level and were off by more than th 1/16" of an inch they should be. To demonstrate this I slide my cell phone from one tile to another and it flipped when hitting the next one (should not have happend). At no time did I see him use a tile puck to check for eveneness. The installer blamed the uneveness on my floors to which I told him that was why the mud goes underneath the tile. The installer then accused me of walking on the tile before it settled (nobody was home to walk on the tile overnight). I told the installer he would either fix the tiles or he could leave my house. i then called the owner who stated he would take care of it. The next day the installer arrived and apologized and stated he would fix the uneven tiles.
The 3 day job ended up taking about 8 days because of a holiday weekend and the fact that the installer never seemed to be in much of a hurry to finish (he never stayed past 4pm). In addition the transition between the tile and the laminate flooring he brought was the wrong color. Instead of going to the shop he asked me if I wanted to use the one he brought (wrong color floor transition) to which I said No. He left the transition piece with me and wrote down his cell phone number on a scrap piece of paper and told me to call him later in the week and he would bring another piece and fix it in between jobs. At that point I was tired of him being at my house so much that I just took the number and never called back. The only reason I rated them Fair in professionalism and not any lower was the owner of the company did seem to correct the issues with the installer immediately and was very professional when providing the estimate and explaining the job to me.
We ended up continuing the flooring into the living room area and I hired another contractor for that portion. Not only was that contractor cheaper but his work quality was noticeably better and he laid more square feet in less time. The installer did inform me that the company does not install many travertine floors which may have been the cause of most of the headaches. I never contacted the owner after his installer left and was never contacted by the company either.
Overall I probably would not hire this company to do any more flooring and will stick to the contractor that installed the rest of the flooring.
They were great. They did an excellent job. They did a professional job. They came when they said they are going to come and did a beautiful job. We will definitely use them again. The first worker who came was good and chatty. He made a small error that was corrected. Other than that there were no other issues. They were very efficient. They were very neat, clean, and courteous.
