When we sought to refinish our pool, we asked several reputable pool maintenance companies in Orlando for their recommendations. Erickson Pools came highly recommended. Their cost was higher than our other two bids, but they assured us that the work could be done in "12-14 days" and that it would be completed well in advance of our daughter's high school graduation which was three months away. We reassured ourselves that "you get what you pay for" and that the job would be done right. Afterall, they had been highly recommended by a pool maintenance company that we had trusted for years (if only we had checked Angie's List first!).
The pool has just been completed after almost 60 days. Some of the work will need to be redone at our expense in the future as we are tired of dealing with Erickson Pools and they do not seem to be interested in either doing a job well or communicating with customers. While some of the numerous Erickson employees we encountered over the past two months were helpful, the majority provided us with one excuse after another or simply shrugged their shoulders and walked away when we asked questions. We were made frequent promises that were never kept. Numerous phone calls and text messages to the Erickson Poolss leadership were never returned. When we could get someone on the phone and we asked what was taking so long, we were made to feel that it was our fault ("your pool is too deep"). At one point Barb told us not to call the office ("we can't get good staff - call me on my cellphone instead"). She rarely responded and finally told us not to call her, but to call the office if we needed help. We ultimately found the owner's name through the Better Business Bureau. David Allen also made us feel that their delays were our fault. He would not accept responsibility for the job his employees were (or were not) doing. He could not answer our questions and clearly didn't know the job despite the staff telling us that he made all of the decisions. He also stated that they had had trouble with their employees. In short, everyone at Erickson Pools seemed to point fingers at and blame each other for any problems. They unnecessarily hacked down a hedge alongside the pool without asking and poured excess pool plaster on our lawn and flower beds. Tiles were misplaced and ultimately fixed weeks later (after we pointed them out), but with the wrong color of plaster. One of the pool inlets was clogged with plaster which we had to remove ourselves as Erickson Pools refused to investigate it ("it must have been blocked before"). Despite their reassurances when we signed the contract that Erickson Pools would do the initial balancing of the chemicals, they refused to do so stating that it was "our responsibility".
Needless to say, the pool was dirty with tadpoles growing in it for our daughter's graduation party. With a house full of family and guests from around the country, it was both embarrassing and frustrating. In retrospect, we did not get what we paid for and should have chosen a different company to refinish our pool.
As a contrasting example of excellent service, our air conditioner broke this past month. A local company provided us with an estimate, installed a loaner air conditioner that same day, called us every few days to let us know when the new unit would arrive, called us to let us know it had arrived and to schedule installation, installed the new unit and even repainted the air handler closet, filled out the rebate paperwork for us, and came by several days later to inspect the work and teach us how to use the new system. This level of service and communication is above and beyond what we would have expected, but has earned this company a life-long customer. Erickson Pools clearly needs to go back to customer service school!
We have never written such a scathing review of a company and regret having to do so. We have been extremely frustrated with Erickson Pools' total lack of service, communication, lack of attention to detail, and poor quality. We would highly recommend that you look to other firms for your pool resurfacing needs.
