Larry met with us several times, and drew up the plans based on what we described. He estimated the materials and provided an estimate. He then drew up the plans which were submitted to the board. During every phase of the project, he worked closely with us. He made excellent recommendations and worked with us to refine the design as it went forward. We decided to enlarge the screened area mid way along the project and Larry was very accomodating and flexible. The spiral staircase was late in arriving, so Larry lashed a ladder to the deck so that we could view the progress on a daily basis.
Description of Work: Larry did an incredible job designing and building an elevated screen porch for our house. It is lovely and very solid. He worked with us, and was extremely flexible, which was important because we changed our minds regarding the details. Challenges were trees very close, requiring an extension to the decking to avoid risking support posts traumatizing pine tree roots and an existing deck on the bottom level to work around. He also ordered and installed a galvanized spiral staircase and painted it, as well as repainting the entire house after putting hardyboard on all the gables and replacing soffits. We were very delighted with Larry's work and it really adds to the enjoyment of our house, providing a breezy escape with an awesome view. Please refer to photos.

Larry was excellent. We called for an estimate and he showed up the same day to write up the estimate and was available to start the work the next day. He showed up when he said he would and performed all the work to our satisfaction. We are very pleased with the job and are already looking at another project for Larry to complete. You rock Larry!!

He did an excellent job. He replaced a number of ceiling tiles that had been damaged by water leakage, replaced several individual tiles elsewhere and did touch painting. He also painted the whole ceiling of the damaged area.

Let me start by saying Larry is a personable guy, and he was having some personal issues during the job. He works very clean and took precautions to protect all the surfcaes he worked around. That being said there was a definite lack of communication between Larry and I. I thought I had explained adequately and succinctly what I needed as an end result, but there was a definite lack of understanding. As the customer I should not be put in the position of having to figure out what materials have to be used where in order to make the job come out right, but that is what happened. Twice I had to correct how the inside finishing was being done to meet the intent, and he actually had to take down what he was doing. And, perhaps the worst thing is Larry did not ask. I helped Larry get the larger window in (that is another downside, Larry is a one man operation) was not there when he fitted the finished the larger window, but my wife said she did not see him use one shim. The inside window frame was bowed and I had to get him to try and staighten it out, and it was still not perfect. I admit I mismeasured on the small window by an inch, and he had to pad the sides, but it seemed like more effort was put into it than it required. The drywall corner bead and and finshing required I am not happy with because the corner bead was installed with the bead a qurate inch above the exsiting drywall causing the angle to be less than 90 degrees and very noticable. Nor, am I happy with the stucco finish applied to the outside because no attempt was made to replicate the current texture. All in all it was an exasperating experience, that as the job progessed I just wanted to get over with. Larry was definitely not the cheapest bid, and hindsight being 20-20, I would have gone with a bigger outfit. When we strip the kitchen and begin the renovation process we will just rip out the wall board and start over. If I had any advice to offer Larry: Ask qustions, and make sure you know what the customer really wants before proceeding.
Description of Work: I had two old contractor grade windows removed and replaced with Pella double hungs; a 5' window and 2' window. I had a unique problem regarding the way the old windows met the counter top surface, and I could not proceed with a kitchen makeover without fixing it. I live in Pinellas county and my house was built in 1986. I assume building codes at the time were much more lax than now and it showed. The sill of the old window was at the same level as the counter top, and there was what can only be described as a an alluminun filler strip in between the two surfaces. I wanted an build up of the sill and the drywall to be even with the existing drywall so a backsplash coud be installed.

We called Larry who set an appt time and came out and gave us an estimate based on a complete remodel of our bathroom. We wanted the old tile taken off, tub taken out and a shower put in its place, the old sink and vanity taken out and a new one installed. We also wanted a wall where the old water heater had been leaking taken off and the area repaired, if needed. We also had an area in our living room by the main door that someone before him had put tile in. There was no edging around it and it looked terrible! We asked him to install some laminate in that area and make it look much better. He ran behind on the previous job, but made sure to call us to let us know and asked if it was okay that he start two days later than agreed. He had said he hoped to be finished with the other job but wasn't sure before we even signed the agreement. He came out at the scheduled time-between 8-8:30am and began the demolition. He was very considerate when he did this too because he left the toilet in and completed the other side of the bathroom before he took this out and when he finally did, it was out only one full day. This gentleman is wonderful! When he picked the word precision to be in his Company's name, let me tell you, he certainly lives up to this! He had to make a shower where the tub used to be, and made exact measurements to be sure that everything was even and looked just perfect. He took his time as if doing it for his own home and gave us exactly what we wanted. It is simply beautiful! He laid the tile on the floor, installed the new vanity and toilet and put up a new light and mirror. He also had to replace the wall where the water heater had leaked and did so behind the toilet as well. He worked very hard every day, and even came back the day after Thanksgiving (he even said he would come on Thanksgiving if we wanted him to) to get the water hooked back up in the sink after the granite was installed on the vanity. We have never met a better contractor than Larry and would not call anybody ever again. We recently had our other bathroom remodeled by another contractor and there is NO comparison. Everything in the bathroom done by Larry looks simply perfect! We are so happy we found him on Angie's list!
Description of Work: We had our bathroom completely gutted and remodeled.

We live in new York and recently purchased this 1950s property as an investment and future retirement home. Because we are not there much of the time, we really needed someone we could trust and communicate with well. We got several bids before proceeding. Not only was Larry's the best price, we felt the most comfortable with him right from the start. We are very happy with everything - the job itself, the cost, and Larry's professionalism. There's a good reason why "precision" is his company's middle name. Larry really cares about all the little things that make such a big difference. When installing the floor tile, he discovered that one end of our kitchen sloped a little bit and he put lot of work into leveling the floor and the refrigerator before proceeding. We had bought the tile at a discount place and it turned out that the tiles were seconds, not exactly the same size. Therefore, Larry had to figure out how to make the grout spacing look even when in fact it is not. He did this without complaining and did a great job. We didn't even know about the problem until he was all done. Originally, the walls were in rough shape and the baseboard molding had been joined incorrectly. There also was a metal grate for air to move between the rooms (this had been before A/C was installed.) Larry removed the grate and patched in a piece of drywall, smoothed out the walls, installed new molding, and painted everything. It looks great! After painting the ceiling in the living room and kitchen, he decided to throw in the bathroom, too, since it now looked dingy compared to the other two rooms. When he put the new door in, it was installed very nicely but we realized that due to miscommunication on our part, he had made it flush to the interior wall instead of the exterior, which is how we wanted it. When we asked him to take it out and re-install, Larry was really gracious about it. Of course we compensated him for doing this, but still, not everyone would have been that nice, having to rip out work he just did. Larry kept us informed about his progress by sending email photos, which really helped to ease our minds about how things were going, being so far away. When we got back to Florida, we were delighted to find all the debris hauled away and the place nice and clean. We have only good things to say about Larry and recommend him highly!
Description of Work: Remove window and install door in its place; install storm shutters and retractable screen for new door; book electrician and work with him to install new exterior light and electrical outlets and switches; remove existing floor tile and carpet; install new ceramic floor tile; paint walls and ceilings; install new over-stove microwave and move existing kitchen cabinet; install wall shelves in utility room; install new door locks; install new bathroom towel bars; install new mini-blinds; fix numerous small issues including tub caulking, opening stopped drains, and venting laundry basin. The amount listed above is what we paid Larry; most of the materials (ceramic tile, pre-hung door; paint, microwave, blinds, locks, towel bars) were additional.

Oops...see above! Replaced garage door with a shorter door so added 6" to header, replaced siding on gable, replaced trim around garage door, replaced fascia board, added trim to corners of garage, delivered new materials to job site and removed old materials from job site.
Description of Work: Before having the garage door in our 1926 bungalow's detached garage replaced, we contacted three A-rated remodeling firms from Angie's List. Welch Precision Remodeling replied quickly and provided us with a detailed written proposal for labor. This bid was lower than the others and that concerned me...until Larry began work. He arrived promptly each morning and he completed each phase of the job as he had discussed in his bid. His work was very neat plus he left the job site very clean. That's important when you're mixing nails and tires! We had previously purchased the materials but Larry did not like the straps that came with our garage door so he purchased stronger straps and replaced them at no additional charge. Not only would I use Larry again, I have! I'm an interior designer and I decided to use my home as a test case to locate a new remodeling firm. Welch Precision Remodeling has already completed two jobs for my clients and they are as pleased as I. Larry makes my firm look good!

Larry kept a steady schedule in order to complete repairs requested. He was focussed and kept us updated on the status of repairs. He was pleasant and reliable throughout the process. His carpentry skills are quite good and he cleaned up very well when the job was done. We would use his services again.
Description of Work: Removed facia and all water damaged wood on/near back deck ceiling. Repaired roof area above water damaged wood. Prior to doing this the birdcage was supported and all ceiling joints inspected and replaced if needed. Installed pressure treated header and reinstalled cedar to match existing wood. Repaired/replaced gutters and sealed to prevent existing problem. Replaced birdcage then primed and painted to match.

Larry did a top notch job. He replaced our inward opening front door and sidelight with a Therma-true outward swing impact door and sidelight, including picking up the new door, disposal of the old door and cleanup. He rescreened our raised porch and added blinds, which was difficult given the angles. He picked up the blinds and had them cut to order, installing them with brackets. He was quick and through, prompt and skilled as always. We recommend him highly.

Larry is very professional, prompt, hard working, precise, a good listener, an excellent problem solver and a real craftsman! He is also patient and well organized, and his labor charges are very reasonable. Larry is now our go to guy for all of our home improvement needs. Larry measured the rooms for the estimate, and then provided us with a detailed estimate, per room exactly as we asked, so that the work could be done in stages. He did a wonderful job installing the faux copper ceiling in the kitchen, replaced the fluorescent lighting, filling in the gap and installing new spot lighting. He even cut his own molding, when he couldn't locate the type that we needed. He was extremely patient when the cabinet companykept missing the delivery dates to the home improvement store and he had to go over there multiple times, on each of the date(s) that it was supposed to have arrived. He willingly rescheduled the work, doing all the prep prior to the arrival of the ceiling planking. He painted and stained the molding at home on the weekends. He and his son cleaned up at the end of every day, so that we had access to the garage and the entire house remained livable during the construction. They were very careful of our belongings and our wildly energetic dog. Larry was always prompt and discussed options and worked with us on every detail. They even hauled away an old door for us, that was left from a previous job (done by somebody else before we found Larry). It was an excellent remodeling job and we are delighted. We will definitely hire Welsh Precision Remodeling for any home improvements in the future.
Description of Work: Welsh Precision Remodeling did a fabulous job and we highly recommend them. Larry and his son installed new ceilings in our entire house: vinyl soffit on the front and back porches, faux copper in the kitchen and Armstrong woodhaven knotty pine in the rest of the house, including two large rooms with vaulted ceilings, one with existing coffin beams. All rooms have complex angled walls due to fireplaces, breakfast nook etc. This also included installation of molding, replacing lighting and touch up painting. He also replaced our hot water heater.

Mr. Welsh responded the same day we called, promptly viewed the work to be done, told us how he proposed to correct the cracks caused by the settling provided an estimate that was well below the other bids (2) we received. We awarded the job to him, with a start date the beginning of the following week. He called later that week and said that the job he was working on was going to run a couple of days longer. We pushed back his start date 2 days. Mr. Welsh showed up @ 8:00 AM on the day promised. He had all the necessary tools he would need in his late model truck. The tools, truck, and Mr. Welch's appearance along with his conduct of the job were clean, orderly, and reflected his overall professionalism. The job was done a little sooner than he estimated and he came in under budget.
Description of Work: An addition to the original house had settled slightly causing cracks in the floor, wall, ceiling and outside wall. Mr. Welch cutback the walls and ceiling cracks, knocked down the approximately 3/8" difference in the original slab and the settled, add-on slab. He feathered the varying elevations in the floor with hydraulic cement, caulked the inside wall and ceiling, and strapped and re-stuccoed the outside wall crack. He also removed 4, 8' mirrors and smoothed the wall behind them. He added an electrical receptacle in a wiring box that was behind one of the mirrors.

I found Larry when I needed a few handyman chores done around the house. He was able to do the full gamut and did them with such expertise that I asked him to replace my kitchen and family room ceiling so it would look like the one at Palm Pavilion. Now my friends and I rave about my ceiling. He has just completed remodeling my guest bathroom. A full hand tiled shower, turned an antique marble topped vanity into a sink and replaced another ceiling plus added bead-board wainscot. I have seen quite a few handymen and contractors in my day, but none have shown the level of expertise and attention to detail that Larry does. My friends are all now asking for his card. Welch Precision Remodeling is allowing me to turn my plain Florida ranch into my personal palace, and instead of being a painful experience, Larry has made it fun. The best thing is that my spoiled and opinionated cats love him. They are excellent judges of character.
