?Palm Harbor Heating and Air? to do some warranty work for our Trane .
We actually bought this Trane from them 5 years ago with no problems at all back then. We have no idea
why they would act like they did as detailed below. We have never had any issues with them in our past. Nothing negative until after this below.
Yet, the below made our jaw drop. They appear to have a business model to grossly over charge where they can today, and demand cash only from a certain percentage of their customers.
Palm Harbor Heating and Air said they would
come over an fix the AC under warranty but they demanded a whopping $1,000 cash
paid up front on Friday and the work would be done the next week. The Trane AC part was under warranty but we had to pay for labor. WOW, did these guys try to pull a fast one on warranty work.
They demanded $1,000 up front, 4-7 days before they even did the work. They refused a check, they refused a credit card. They wanted 100% cash that was to be
picked up them that day, but no work would actually be for days later. They said this was all because of
what Burgess had said to them about us.
There was no way we were going to pay $1,000 up front for work that would not
even be started that day. We offered to pay $1,000 up front on American Express
versus meeting his demands for ?cash? only to protect ourselves from any
potential contractor scams.
Palm Harbor Heating and Air
refused payment by credit card. Palm Harbor AC is advertising they accept
credit cards on Angies List, yet, they seem to force a certain percentage of their
customers to do business as cash only......Hummmmm....
Hey this is Florida, you would be nuts to pay any contractor 100% of the work estimate up front in cash today on the promise they will come back in a week to actually do the work.
We refused to be taken advantage of. We called Trane Customer Care and they agreed with us NOT to pay them cash up front like they demanded.
We ended up calling another Trane Dealer, who did the work for $525 NOT the
$1,000 cash up front that Palm Harbor AC demanded.
The great dealer was Millian-Aire A/C. They came out with the brand new coil in
less than 3 hours, offered great professional service.
Palm Harbor Heating and Air clearly attempted to take advantage of us, where we followed
our gut feeling and ran from Palm
Harbor heating and
Air.
They receive an ?F?, while
Millian-Aire receives ?AAA+?.

I'm happy to have AC back on a hot day with such a quick service. He even spent time to look up warranty on the failed part but found out we wouldn't qualify as we're not the original owner (pretty lame exclusions for all AC units apparently, that it's not transferrable). In any case, I was ok with paying for the part to have things back operational again and even had an Angie's coupon to knock off a few bucks. Definitely recommended. I will have them come out next spring for annual checkup.
When our AC went down on a 90+ degree Florida afternoon, I search Angie's List for a provider. I called Palm Harbor Heating and Air Conditioning Inc. at 2:08pm. After obtaining my contact info, I asked their service rep if we could expect service today. She placed me on a brief hold, and came right back on the line stating they'd could have someone at our home the same day. She stated the tech would call when in route. At 2:38pm I received a call from Palm Harbor Heating and Air Conditioning Inc.'s dispatcher, stating the tech was on the way. Ben, the Service Supervisor, arrived about 3pm and had our unit up shortly before 4pm. We loved their response, communication and service so well that we are booking a major service and cleaning of our AC unit with them in the near future. We only wish all contractors were this responsive and professional.
