"(deleted member name) wanted just deco drain installed and it was installed properly and he has a low deck by his door and is actually higher than his back porch... We installed the deco drain properly and he didn't want to spend the money for an encapsulated drain system to take the water from storms away from the door as he was fine with the open deco drain system and it ended only a few feet from the door... Also he was told he would have to keep clean and unplugged because it is an open system and exposed to the elements.. Obviously it has plugged up and when severe rain happens, it won't drain away... He's only telling about 1/3rd of the story as we went out several times to help resolve the problem and even poured concrete to raise a deck by his house to remove standing water No Charge and it cost me $350.00.. Also several times we went there , there was a roofing crew working and we couldn't even get to the back deck and this crew broke several pieces of new deco drain and part of the old roof went into the new drain which we unplugged and replaced at no charge.. A year later he knows should have put in the extended drain system and now is wanting it done for nothing by complaining about a open deco drain system.....You would have to see his deck and porch to understand how the porch is lower than the deck He needs to raise his porch with concrete to avoid his drainage problem... It is not something we created....."
The issues started when the new french drains were installed. They were installed 1/4 inch higher than the concrete, probably the standard for when clients are laying brick pavers. However, we were not, and therefore, the acrylic layer would then need to be very thick to compensate for the difference in height.
Complete Pool Renovations used a subcontractor for the acrylic process and that gentleman said that he could work around it, but needed to verify with Gerry on their contracted price because of all the extra acrylic material needed to fill in the height difference.
The acrylic process started and everything seemed to go well, the subcontractor finished the job, including color sealing the new pool deck. Unfortunately, it rained that night/next day. Apparently because the acrylic was so thick, it did not dry properly and all the paint and some acrylic ended up running into the pool and the deck was partially ruined. The pool water was extremely cloudy because of the paint and acrylic chemicals entering the pool. The filter was also ruined. The pump was OK, but we had to clean out paint that was stuck to the inside of the cartridge canister.
The subcontractor had to come back and redo about 1/2 the job. Obviously he wasn't too happy about it. Gerry made sure that all was taken of. I felt in the middle. On one hand, I paid a lot of money and wanted a complete and thorough job. On the other hand I had some sympathy for the subcontractor and Complete Pool Renovations to have to lose out on profits. But in the end, the subcontractor should have not rushed the job, and let the acrylic dry and come back later to color seal. This is his specialty and he should have known.
After the job was completed, I was very happy. What should have been 1 week of work turned into several weeks. It was difficult on us not using our backyard, as we have a dog we had to walk every time. In the end, I paid Gerry and was happy he worked through all the issues.
My one unresolved complaint, and this is why I gave a "D" and mostly "B's". About 1 week after the job completed, I saw a large crack foming and called Complete Pool Renovations. Gerry came by to pick up my final payment when I was not home, but did not comment on the crack. I called them again to voice my complaint, and did not receive a return call. As a side note, I contacted the subcontractor directly, and he said he would come out, and never did. I supposedly have a warranty, and Gerry told me he would take care of any future problems, just call. So I am disappointed and ultimately feel that all the issues that mounted due to the incorrect drains, basically caused a domino effect of errors.
I now have at least 6 cracks in my decking, all of them appeared within 1 month of the job completion. 1 crack is about 10-12 feet long, another is about 7 feet long, and another about 5 feet, the others are about 1-2 feet long. I also have several areas that puddle instead of draining into the drains. In fairness, I was told that would happen a little bit, but I do feel that these puddles are larger than necessary. The subcontractor said we would have to pay $250 min for him to repair those. We feel that these puddles are too large to be just "normal" and should be corrected appropriately. If Complete Pool Repair or the subcontractor refuse to come out to repair, then we are stuck having to pay another company to repair these crack and puddles.
I did say that I would use this contractor again. Its really a maybe. I thought that the price was good, and the issues were being worked though. Bottom line, does this company stand behind their warranty? If so, I would use them again.
"The job was completed and the work was done in accordance with the specifications for Acrylic Decks. the customer was given many extra's at No Charge. Example: Approximately 30' of Deco Drain- our cost of $450. Also, the deck was leveled perfectly and the standing water she refers to, disappears in a few minutes, based on the thickness of a nickel rule. The customer in this case, hasn't maintained the deck sine we finished and her complaints are not warranted. The deck was so bad, it was floated several times to get proper slopes, and that's why it took more than a week. Stress cracks on old decks appear and are never guaranteed that they won't happen. This customer got a $4,000 job for $2,900. they were very happy while the work was performed. Their report was very surprising. Thank you for your time, Gerry D. Minear, operations."
