'Robin' asked about my coming in and when I said 'maybe next day or so' I got a (irritating, because I hadn't set up an appointment)) call from a sales manager saying 'Robin has said you're coming in today, if you are not, please call us'!?!. I told the man I spoke with that I would prefer to call before we came rather than feel I had an 'appointment'.
We called on Saturday and heard Robin was on duty and she acknowledged we'd be coming in. When we arrived the sales floor was very busy but Robin was located and she showed us the vehicle we'd come to see. I rate 'fair' for punctuality in that she took a bit to get the right key and also to get back to us while asking her sales manager (Shawn?) the very best price if the dealership fixed the cracked front windshield and the two door latches of the car.
We were completely dismayed at:
a) the 'as is' nature of the vehicle being shown
b) Robin's rather disinterested demeanor as to whether we took it or not
c) the bad handwriting on the check-list of items that a mechanic had noted
c) the fact that the mechanic
hadn't checked all the many points the dealership said they'd gone over. He wasn't reassured by Robin in any way that if we bought the vehicle these WOULD be checked so that we would have a piece of paper stating item-by-item these points HAD been assessed. We felt that this was a LOT too 'loose' a relationship, being that if you didn't insist , you'd have nothing to stand on but word-of-mouth.
d) the final price quoted (with or without the additional work needed). It was above Kelley Blue Book for a significantly flawed vehicle. There was no interest in closing a sale and we left the dealership extremely upset with this first (of three that day) used car dealership experience.
I was called by Shawn today to ask how the experience went and I said that we'd been displeased by the quality of the car. I did not mention Robin's 'take it or leave it' approach with us but I would not return to this dealership or if I did, I would work with a more enthusiastic associate and we would insist that we knew what the dealership had ascertained (or would verify) about the vehicle's condition.
