I then hired Mustang Builders to do the following: rip out drywall ceiling in the lanai, rip out ceilings in both the living room and lanai, and trim to size in the living room. The water remediation team removed the damaged drywall in the lanai ceiling, The drywall subcontractors installed new batt insulation between the studs in the lanai ceiling and did the setup for the drywall ceiling in the lanai. The subcontractor also did the ceiling drywall installation, paint primer and finish coat, which was then installed with a skip-trowel finish. The Lanai ceiling came out perfect ! It was ready for Mustang to come in and paint.
Mustang Builders drywall subcontractors then worked on the 9x14 hole in the living room ceiling. They had some difficulty refinishing the ceiling to match the stucco that was existing in the surrounding ceiling. The following day, the drywall subcontractors arrived to inspect their work. The sub-contractors work turned out horrible. They ended up tearing down the entire 9x14 patch and started from scratch. They then did a complete ceiling refinish, but the ending finish did not come out well for a SECOND time. My house is vintage 1968, and comes with a wood and lath ceiling, which is then finished with drywall, and then stucco finishing. They reworked the ceiling for a second time, at no cost to me.
Upon viewing the results of the second repair, the sheet rock men sanded and scraped the ceiling, and prepped the plaster for a THIRD repair. The ceiling was finished, with nearby walls and ceiling being repaired. Upon letting the repair and paint dry overnight, the repair looked great, and the sand finish matched the existing stucco on either side of the repair. It was extra days of plaster dust, and covers over all the rugs and carpets, but the final work turned out better than the first three attempts. After it completely dried, it AGAIN showed more areas in need of repair, but by this time I had learned how to repair drywall by watching them for days beforehand. The house was a total mess, covered with drywall dust, even with all the plastic coverings everywhere. My furniture was piled up and covered with white dust over most of the house. I had plaster footmarks from the driveway, on through the interior hallways, ending on the carpets in the guest bathroom. What a mess from the Drywall subcontractors.
Having some serious health problems, including COPD and a collapsed LUNG, I spoke with Scott about the mess. He offered to have the drywall subcontractor return and evaluate the mess his workers had left, but I declined his offer to have these guys back in my house. I hold nothing against MUSTANG BUILDERS as this was an issue caused by the subcontractor. I opted to
clean up slowly on my own, in accordance with how my health was day by day. I realize that the drywall subcontractor had lost money on the recurring repair days, and that they had work running behind because of the extra days that they had spent doing repair work on those extra days spent working at my house. Sorry, but that wasn't my problem. They were aware of my health problems. I believe they should have simply told me to leave the house on a certain day, so they could have cleaned up the plastic sheets in the living room and total lanai, plus the the furniture covers, and the stacked piles of furniture. They arrived with no cleanup equipment on their last day, and if not for a dustpan brush I gave to them, they would have been without any tools at all. Thank you.
I want to note that the drywall team are subcontractors for Mustang Builders. Anytime I spoke to Mustang Builders owner Scott Grimm about the drywall crew, he took immediate action to get their job done correctly.
ALSO -- Mark, the painter for Mustang Builders painted the ceilings, trim and walls in most of the house. His work was very neat, He installed multiple coats wherever the old paint color was coming thru, and he taped off any areas that he thought might be a
drip over situation. Kudos to Mark. He does an excellent job painting for Mustang Builders. I would love to have him return at some future date to paint the remaining rooms in my house. THANKS MARK !!
