"Mrs. [Member Name Removed], I appreciate your patronage of my business. I am also confused about why you would blame me for the clearance issues with your windows, since you ordered your shutters prior to having your new windows installed. When I visited your home, I provided an extremely thorough explanation as to how the shutters would be installed, using frame samples. You made [Member Information Removed] mention of any specific features your new windows would have that your existing windows did not have. You purchased 8 shutters and only 1 opening has a clearance issue. I take pride in my career and my business and provide extremely thorough and detailed explanations of our products and processes during my in-home sales consultations. However, I can not predict the future, and would have had [Member Information Removed] means of knowing the specific features of the windows you were having installed, since you had [Member Information Removed] sample of the window at your home. If you had made it clear your new windows would have a 'tilt-in' sash, then I would've advised you of the risk with purchasing your shutters prior to having the new windows installed. Respectfully, Dave"
Completely awful experience working with owner Dave Roberts. My experience sounds like it was similar to another reviewer in that Dave is great before the deal, and absolutely horrific to deal with if anything goes wrong.
I ordered my blinds to be ?inside mount.? Dave said that they would be ?semi-flush inside mount?, explaining that they would protrude from the casing about an inch, rather than being completely flush. I said that was fine, but explained that I just didn't want anything - the actual mechanism or the decorative rail - above or outside of the casing on top, as that would then appear to be "outside mount". I was adamant that I did not want " anything mounted on the actual wall or paint." He assured me it would not be. I even took the time to visit his store to be sure of what I was getting, and to confirm that the protrusion was something I could live with. He either intentionally lied to me or he messed up the measurements.
You might think that paying $3,000 for blinds that I hate the looks of would be the worst part of this, but you'd be wrong; the absolute worst part was trying to talk to the owner about the problem. He was instantly irate, defensive and even threatening.
As soon as I realized the blinds were installed incorrectly, I told the installer I wanted to talk to Dave. He called Dave and the two of them went back-and-forth. When I interrupted and asked to speak with him directly, the installer hung up the phone, apologized to me and said that Dave was refusing to talk to me, that he had a contract and he (the installer) was advised to not leave my house without payment. I assured the installer that I had no intention of NOT paying, but I wanted to talk to Dave about what happened. I then called the store and spoke with Jessica, telling her I didn't get what I thought I was getting, and I wanted to talk to Dave to see if it can be fixed. Jessica replied: "He was supposed to trim it down to fit inside." Yep, that's what I thought. I finally got Dave on the phone and in a word it was a nightmare. The man was extremely angry and as another reviewer wrote "LOUD", accusing me of wasting his time and pulling him away from another customer. Keep in mind I had no issues with Dave up until this point, but before I even said one word, he was yelling at me. "I PAY MY GUYS $150 BUCKS AN HOUR. I want them out of your house RIGHT NOW. PAY THEM NOW OR WE'LL RIP THEM OUT AND YOU WILL BE SUED." I held the phone away from my ear and let him rant a bit, but he would not stop to let me speak. Finally, I literally (and this is not an exaggeration) had to yell, ?Dave, Dave, Dave.? to get him to stop talking. I said "Please listen to what I'm trying to explain to you." His exact words: "No. I don't have to listen to you. I have a signed contract. I don't care if you're not happy - that's why I have a contract." I have never experienced anything like it in my entire life. His words and tone were so angry and aggressive that had the conversation been in person rather than over the phone, I would have been scared, and I'm not one to scare easily.
I knew at that moment there was no chance he would attempt to fix the work so I had no choice but to pay because I had a second house showing scheduled and I promised the buyers the blinds would be installed. But I did not get what I ordered.
If you end up using Blind and Shutter Gallery, I sincerely hope you have no issues. If you do, you will likely find yourself trying to communicate and remedy the problem with a very hostile and irate owner who will attempt to intimidate you by threatening to sue you, not just for refusing to pay, but also if you write a negative review. Yes, you read that right; if he follows through on his threat, I will be sued for submitting this review. I?ll provide updates after the trial which will henceforth be known as the 2015 Landmark Case of Blind v. Sighted.
I'll close with something positive. Installer Danny is a super nice guy. Consider putting him in charge of customer relations.
P.S.
They neglected to extend the Angie's List coupon as well, even though Dave told me that they would. Thanks for nothing, Blind and Shutter Gallery.
