The problem I had with Joe had nothing to do with his response to my service call. The problem came later, when I tried to arrange for him to replace the ignition. Joe told me to call him on Monday to see if he could get the part. I waited until Tuesday to call. He told me he could get the part in a day or so and that he would call me when he had it to arrange for installation. I waited two weeks. I finally called him again on Monday, April 8. I reminded him who I was and asked if he had the part yet. He told me that since he hadn't heard from me he thought I must have changed my mind so he hadn't picked up the part yet. Then he told me that his phone had broken and he lost all the contact information so he couldn't call me. I was skeptical, but decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and asked him how long it would take him to get the part, and then how long it would take to install it. He assured me he could get the part within a day or two and the installation would take only about an hour. I told him to call me when he got the part. He asked me to text him the VIN number of my car so he could get the code for new keys, and said he would call me as soon as he had the new ignition keyed up and ready to install. I texted him the VIN number along with my name, address, home phone number, and the make of my car just to be clear.
On Thursday, April 11, Joe called me. He said he had the part and just needed to get it ready to install. He asked if I would be able to drop my car off later Thursday for the installation. I told him I could bring him the car (I still don't know where he was planning to do the work, as his business card has only his phone number), but I would have no way to get myself back home. He said I could either watch him do the work or he would drop me off and quot;wherever I wanted to goand quot; and then pick me back up when the work was done. I told him to call me when he was ready for my car.
I waited all day Thursday, all day Friday, and until noon on Saturday. Joe never called. We have an answering machine, caller ID, call waiting, and a back-up voicemail service that picks up if we are one the phone, so I know I did not miss any calls. About 12:30 I sent Joe a text, asking him if he'd lost my number again since I hadn't heard from him. I also told him I hoped he could return the part (if, in fact, he ever bought one) because I was through waiting for him.Within a minute of sending the text Joe called my cell phone. I sent it to voice mail. Joe's voicemail said that he was sorry he hadn't called, but he got really tied up. He said that he had the part, just needed to get it ready to install and could have it ready by tomorrow, or later today. He also said that he thought that installing it Saturday or Sunday would work out better for me, since he knew it was my only vehicle (I never told him that). He further said that if I didn't want to work with him he would understand, but if I still wanted him to do the work I should call him.
About 5 minutes later he sent me a text message saying that the reason he hadn't called Thursday or Friday was because he had a family emergency and had to go up to Gainesville because his daughter broke her and quot;fibia boneand quot;. Last time I checked there is no such bone, and I think this is just one more of Joe's and quot;fibiasand quot;. He seems like a nice enough guy, but I no longer trust him. At this point I wouldn't want him anywhere near my car.
"Customer satisfaction is our main goal. Unfortunately specialized parts that are dealer item only need special ordering. When the customer has only one vehicle and cannot part with it when service is available it is difficult to perform the work in a timely manner. If the customer would have brought the vehicle to us when the parts had came in the work would have been completed."
On my first call I discussed what I was needing in regards to locks, the tech was busy and stated that he would call back. He did not. Several days later I called back and we made arrangements to install locks, he showed up on time and completed the job. During this time we discussed additional work on two different doors and set up another appointment for the following week. He did not show up or call to reschedule. Not impressed.
"There was discussion and agreement for additional locks and she made a selection of what she wanted. We ordered and purchased the additional locks to be installed at the customers request and returned to the residents at an agreed date. We sent a tech out to perform the additional installation of the locks. The tech unloaded all the tools from the truck and set up to perform the install for additional deadbolts. At this time she had changed her mind and was unsure if the locks that she requested were what she really wanted to install. This would have been good information to know to avoid unnecessary costs and expenses that were put on the company. With the loss of the travel time and lock cost and set up time and customer unsure of what she wanted we waited for her to contact us with a confirmation of what she wanted installed. We did not hear back from the customer nor did we contact her back."
