9 AM. I called at 4:45 and she was not ready. I went at 5:30 and got her. I
picked up a dog that was very groggy. I brought her back to Pet Coral the
following day; two days after that and then day following. No one could find
what was wrong. She was examined in a room out of my sight, so I could not see
what they saw. She was medicated each time, but the cause of her problem was
never discovered by anyone at Pet Coral. The medication masked he rinjury.
Ultimately I took her to the Animal ER only to find her stomach had been almost
entirely burned when Pet Coral used a faulty warming blanket during her teeth
cleaning procedure. Her recovery took almost 8 weeks and cost several thousand
dollars (which costs were paid by Pet Coral). All parties at Pet Coral said my
dog was partially responsible because she "reacted" when the warming blanket was
placed on her. From information I have obtained
after this accident, the dog should have been sedated by the time the warming
blanket was placed on her. In addition to payment of the expenses for her
injury I requested a tax deductible donation to a pet
rescue of my choice (a 501(c)(3) organization) to show that they were sorry for
what had happened. By asking for a donation, I was not trying to profit in any
way from this incident.. At that point I was turned over to their insurance
adjuster who explained that "In Florida pets are personal property..." which I
don't believe is a position an owner who runs a pet driven business should
maintain. I ended up dealing with the insurance adjuster for Pet Coral
who explained "they are a small business with limited
funds". "They" are three owners.. The
attitude at Pet Coral was "It's not our fault so we will blame the dog" and
also, an attitude I find especially offensive "pets are personal property and
there is no consideration for any pain & suffering for the dog owner or the
pet itself." I would never subject an animal to their care again nor can I or
would I ever recommend them to anyone.
Surgery went well, especially taking into consideration my puppy's other special needs. There was a follow-up check a couple days later. (My last vet charged a fee for the follow-up check, they didn't.)
She gets her stitches out in 2 more days.
All went very well. They were very patient with every question I had and I never felt rushed.
The Vet was really attentive and support staff was professional and knowledgeable.
This year when I made the reservation I had them check to make sure we were up to date on all the vaccinations and was told we were. But surprise! When we dropped her off on February 13th, she suddenly needed a canine influenza vaccination. I'm not saying this is a bad thing but why wasn't I told about it when I specifically asked when I made reservations well ahead of time? So she got her vaccination but our plans changed when our flight was cancelled. The staff was understanding about this and we paid only for day care and the vaccination.
We were able to take the trip the following week and made reservations for February 19th through the 21st. Of course we thought we were up to date with everything. However, when we dropped her off this time, she needed an intestinal parasite screening at an additional cost of $21.50. Why didn't she need that screening the week before??? Again, we had no choice.
About a week after we picked our dog up she began coughing and wheezing. We took her to her regular vet at home and was told she had "kennel cough"; our vet told us it takes about 7 days for the kennel cough to happen so she must have picked this up at Pet Coral. I called to inform them about this and they basically asked if I could prove it. No I couldn't prove it.
But I can prove that my dog will not be returning to their establishment next year and we won't have any more padded bills to pay to them.
