We live in Philly & invested in several condos in Port of St. John & Cape Canaveral in Fl. Derman Homes' Mark Derman is the husband of the our realtor. She recommended him. She did a fine job in buying 6 units for us. Because of her, we also trusted Mark Derman. He renovated 3 units & we didn't go down to inspect. Early 2014, we bought one near the ocean. Derman Homes renovated it & a rental company furnished it. In August, we decided to visit before our son started school when it was vacant. We stayed in it for a week & were shocked to see several items he claimed to have done were not done, the quality of the products were very poor, the shower curtain bar he installed came down while taking a shower, the toilet seat cover was so flimsy that it gave in with a creaking sound when sitting on it, the "professionally cleaned" tub was still rusty as the old leaking faucet was not replaced, which he later replaced upon our request. We emailed him asking for purchase proofs to try to get about $2500 back on products by subtracting the amount he charged from the approximate costs online from Home Depot website with a 30% mark up, the percent he claimed he added. He refused but gave us $770 back on items not done, including $225 tub cleaning. A few examples of his charges were: $580 for 3 one gallon paint & 2 fifty gallon primer, $455 for floor cleaning, $56/sq ft for Formica as to our current contractor's $36/sq ft for level 1 granite, $385 for a few cheap GFIs, a dozen of outlets & switches. Mark Derman charged us $11300 (minus the $770) for a cheap upgrade that should have cost about $6k to $7k. We learned our lesson. Don't trust anyone. Check things out yourself, no matter how busy you are.
