Having worked with over 40 sub-contractors, SF Stair did the best work of all. Be patient, the start was a little slower than expected because their business is booming. It's worth a little wait. They did not go over my budget, they heard my design needs and suggested how I get there. I'm thrilled with all the work! Joe, my head installer is fantastic - ask for him. He cares very much about his work. Josh, the owner, is responsive and wants to do a great job for you. I found one small flaw - they returned and spent 3 hours perfecting it - now that is service you just do not find! A+ I would recommend them to anyone.

It has been almost a year since the work has been completed. So far steps have been replaced and a riser split. I now need to have another step fixed since each time you walk on it there is a "pop" sound. In my contract it shows the posts have a square design and they are round with scrolls that I never wanted.. Josh (the owner) refused to replace them and give me what I ordered. We even talked about how with my design it needed a very simple post. Maybe he should have shown up once after I signed the contract. His work after almost a year is still causing me problems. This company was a huge mistake and a very large expense.

The owner visited our home and showed us many photos to help us choose the new stairs, and he understood what we were looking for and came up with a good choice. We were told it would be about 6-8 weeks before the project would start, but we received a call about 4 weeks later saying it could be done earlier, so we went with that. The original estimate was for it to be finished in 4-5 days; however, since the person they sent was doing most of the work on his own (as opposed to with 2 people), it took 10 days, but still the project finished ahead of the original schedule. The main staircase has a spiral curve to it, and the balcony adjacent to it also has a curve. The craftsman was very skilled, bending individual pieces of wood and stacking them together, and basically remaking the entire stairs and handrails from scratch. He was efficient, courteous, and trustworthy. We had to go out of town one weekend, leaving Friday morning, and he stayed Friday late to get the work done, and locked up for us afterwards. Now that the project is completed, it is stunning. The quality of the wood, and the craftsmanship, is really top notch. People who've visited our home since then are amazed at the stairs (including a friend of ours who is a retired contractor, who was very impressed with the work); it's become the focal point of the house. The one remaining thing to do is have the wood stained, which the company said up front is something they don't do, but they gave us a list of names of recommended stair and rail finishers, and we're in the process of contacting them. In addition, throughout the process, the company was always fast at answering emails and returning phone calls, and was very easy to work with. We're very happy with the entire experience.
