The installers pounded the windows into place using a rubber mallet that caused one window to crack and the frames of four of the windows to be dented. I saw and heard the installers using the mallet but assumed they new their business. The window frames are made of aluminum, which is a soft metal. Additionally, the incorrect shade of caulking was used. It should have white to match the frames and house, but beige was used instead.
Oasis contacted the window manufacturer, Florida's Best Windows, to have the cracked windowpane replace on the manufactures warranty. I hadn’t realized that window frames were dented until I watched the windowpane being replaced. It is not always easy to see the dents. Just as it is with dents in a vehicle they are only visible by reflected light at just the right angle. I asked the manufactures repair technician, Pete, if he had caused the dents. He said he had not but that the installers did it and that is why the windowpane cracked. He further explained that the pressure of too tight a fit and being forced into place is what caused the crack. Following this I did a close examination of the window frames and discovered the other three with dents. After my insistent complaining and threats, Rick Calpitano, owner of Oasis, finally came to examine the job done sometime in Feb 2011. He was able to see the dents on only two of the windows. He replaced two of the dented window frames near the end of April 2011. Oasis used two new hire installers as the installers that did my windows were fired because of the rotten job they did. This time the job was done properly and with the correct shade of caulking. Rather than pounding with a mallet, the new installers adjusted the opening as necessary to obtain a proper fit.
