Here's a story about my 88 year old mother and what she had to deal with in replacing her roof.
After the old roof was removed and the new tar paper put down, stacks of tiles were left on the roof for over two weeks. Mark had to be called and reminded to come finish the roof. In 2009 Mark had to come back again because tiles started sliding and are still sliding to this day (9/9/2013). Mark came to fix the work in 2009, unfortnunately the tiles are still sliding. Mark was called in 2010 and did not respond. Mark was called again and came by in mid August 2013 to inspect the roof and said he could not see anything wrong. I have photos of the sliding tiles and sent them to him. He has not responded to a letter or three phone calls. He does not stand by his work. I also noticed that he did not use the correct cap or side tiles to do the job. He used flat roof cap and side tiles on a barrel tile roof. If you look closely in the photo you will see the cement used to retrofit the cap tiles is fracturing and will eventually leak.
I would not recommend this company and must say I am shocked that someone that lives a block away would not respond to a neighbor's complaint or request for an estimate to fix the roof. I have given him every chance to fix the job.
needed to satisfy the municipality and he proceeded to start the work as per his original estimated date. We got lucky with the weather and they worked daily during normal hours as to not disturb the neighbors. They were considerate to my mother and her health aides, telling them what part of the house they would be working on that day, and cleaning up at the end of the day. You never knew that they had been there. From what I learned, you never really know that to expect when you remove an old roof and replace it until you start the work. The only variables to the contract price were any additional unexpected lumber and/or insulation.
It was clearly spelled out on the contract. The job turned out to last about a week longer than expected since they encountered the
and quot;unexpectedand quot;. We were not charged for the extra days, only the additional lumber and insulation (very reasonable, I should add). There were no surprises and Mark kept in touch with us almost every day to keep us advised as to the progress. His crew made sure that any autos were moved from areas that they were working on as not to have them damaged. They were careful to make sure that there was no property damage as well. Re-roofing is not an easy thing, but they did make it look easier than it was. I and another family member were there for much of the job to observe and give our mother piece of mind. We watched much of it first hand. The job has now been completed, and wouldn't you know it, Mother Nature has tested the new roof for us only in a way she
could. No leaks at all! I highly recommend Florida Roofing of Palm Beach County. Being 1200 miles from my mother's house does not make it easy to make sure that you are signing a contract with a reputable company and communicate to make sure that you are in the loop with information you need to be aware of. My ability to spend some time there when the work was being done helped out as well. If you need a roof repair or replacement, do it the right way. We did and are extremely pleased!
