I called to have service to my air conditioning unit as it stopped working. The technician diagnosed the problem and called to tell me that I had a leak and it would be $575 to fix the problem. He could not go up on the roof, he said he was too big to fit through the opening to the roof. He told me that he would have his colleague go up there once I agreed to them doing the repair. I asked him to check the date that the unit was installed and he said he checked and the unit was only 4 years old. I did not feel comfortable with this diagnostic so I told him not to do the job at this time. I called another air conditioning company and that technician was able to climb on the roof and he diagnosed that the disconnect switch was burnt. Upon him changing the disconnect switch, the unit worked and does not have a leak. I called the dispatch person from Direct AC, (George) and explained that they did not diagnose the problem correctly and to refund the $75 that they charged me. He never got back to me after my calling many times. I would never use this company again and anyone who uses this company should be very careful as they misdiagnosed the problem and don't even have the decency to call back to discuss this. These people are not honest.
"We do apologize that our initial technician could not get on to the roof. We did have another tech there immediately. We advised you that your system was low on refrigerant and the steps REQUIRED to have the leak inspected, found and repaired. You declined our services and had another company go out for 2nd opinion. The other company will 100% of the time do whatever it takes to get business from you and simply got your unit working. For how long though?? After reviewing your work order, the disconnect box was working at the time of arrival. If it had not been working, there would have been no way of testing the pressures. The pressures are documented so I find it hard to believe that it was the disconnect box alone. It is not out of the realm of possibility that another company up-sold you on a new disconnect box and simply topped off your refrigerant charge for the same price. It is unlawful to not (at the very least) perform a "sniff" leak test to attempt in finding the leak. We do apologize for any misunderstanding. Note: Homeowner was given a full refund for his service call charge."
