"We are getting this identical review from multiple different names across different platforms. We do not have record of you as a customer. Please call 954-617-6683 to discuss further."
I booked the move and provided answers to all the questions regarding our belongings. On the day of the move, Juan and his helper showed up promptly. Without even trying, Juan immediately said that the couches would not be able to fit through the door (strange, since Macy's delivered them into the very same doors only six months previously). I was at the new house and my mother was with the movers and I spoke to Juan and assured him that the couches did and would fit. They obviously did not grow in size! He said it would take longer and cost me more for the move. I said okay, because really what choice did I have?
They then came to the new house and Juan came to the door and informed me once again that the couches would not fit through the door. He didn't attempt to move the couches, nor did he try to come up with an alternative solution such as a back door or the garage door entrance. Thankfully, my wonderful contractor was present and told him very clearly that the smaller couch would fit through the garage door and the larger couch through the back door.
Overall, they did a decent job although there was some paint damage and wall damage which I didn't even bother to report. The shelves on the wall unit were not installed properly either. I paid for the extra hour of service without question and gave each of them a nice tip.
My suggestion as a business owner is that your employees need to come from a place of Yes. First try to satisfy the customer. Don't immediately say no without even trying. It makes for a very bad first impression, especially since I was told no at both ends and both times the furniture DID fit. It left me a bad taste in my mouth and I will not use the company again. Furthermore, as a real estate broker I will be sure not to recommend the company to any of my clients.
"I'm sorry to hear about your table however it will be difficult for me to follow up regarding the issue as the move took place 9 months ago. I would need to get a bit more information from you to be able to do our due diligence. Please give me a call at the office this week (954-791-8092) and I will see what can still be done."
I spoke with Amy about 30 days before my move and told her I was going from a single story large house to a walkup apt. We had to make 2 stops along the way and Amy estimated 100 boxes. She asked me a million questions and I was very impressed by her professionalism, or so I thought. No stone seemed unturned. I was given an estimate of $1300. After I spoke with Amy I made a decision to donate a full master suite, living room furniture, and some kids furniture so my move would be a lot less large items but I added my washer and dryer. When I called back a week in advance to let them know of the changes I was told Amy was no longer there and I spoke to Doreen. She told me Amy got everything wrong and didn't put in any notes about the walkup apt. I went over everything again with Doreen and despite all the furniture I donated, she told me that adding the washer and dryer would make it a wash.
I joined Angie's List really for one reason and that was to find a reputable mover. Amy told me I would receive a 5% discount for being a member. I asked Doreen if I had to provide a membership number or anything else and she said no I will put it in the notes and mention it to the movers. I actually thought that was odd because anyone could just claim that.
Moving day arrives and 3 guys show up but had to get the right address from me over the phone as they said the office gave them the wrong address. Willie the crew leader needed to go over the paperwork first. He asked if I received the updated estimate and I said no. Doreen failed to email that to me. I saw it was now $1700 but he said not to worry they work by the hour and it will be less. I mentioned Angie's List and he said it wasn't in the notes as promised so he called the office and I mentioned what Doreen told me. He was actually speaking to Doreen and handed me the phone. She told me in order to get the discount I had to print out a coupon. Now all my stuff is packed and my blood started to boil. Of course I would have printed the coupon had she told me. She also said that she never told me I had to just inform the driver. She LIED to me over the phone. Why in the world would I make that up? I lost it at this point as moving without nonsense is stressful enough and so deservedly my NJ upbringing came out and I screamed this was BS to her. She didn't like that. She put me on hold and her manager approved it. They gave them the wrong address, never mentioned Angie's List and the crew told me there was nothing mentioned about the stops or the stairs at the APT. This is how this starts, not good.
I was really beside myself at this point but here is where Willie and his crew saved the day. He told me to forget everything that happened at the office. I was informed this happens all the time and I probably needed a 4th man but for whatever reason they want to keep the crew in the dark to maybe save money or not to scare the customer with sticker shock. I went over every painstaking detail as I didn't want any surprises but they still got it wrong. Willie and his crew made everything fine. They wouldn't let me or my GF help. Every time I picked up a box they said let me get that for you. I have never seen 3 guys work so hard and do it with a smile and great attitudes. The office thing bothered me all day and these guys were also like shrinks telling me everything would be OK.
We made the stops it all went great as Willie promised. The final bill came in at about $1200 which was less then the original estimate. If Willie and his crew ran the office I would have given an A++++++. They worked so hard I tipped each one $100 and truthfully they were worth more. If you do use this company be aware Doreen will lie and make sure you get everything in writing and make sure they put all the notes in. I called corporate and told them this entire story and they were very apologetic. They thought this was serious enough to speak to the franchise owner personally about this. If you do use them do yourself a favor and ask for Willie's crew.
Thank you for the response but you glossed over Doreen's role in this. I can understand I was caught in the middle of a policy change. That doesn't change the fact and by your own admission that just mentioning Angie's List qualified for the discount. My ire came from the fact that Doreen flat out lied and told me she never said that to me. If she would have said there was a change in policy or something to that effect it wouldn't have been as bad. It was the fact she lied about it and also didn't provide an accurate scope of work required for your great crew that is at issue. I am a small business owner myself and while we all have problems from time to time some our fault, you don't compound things by saying falsehoods to customers. It leaves a very bad taste in ones mouth. In closing, again thank you for responding and I hope Doreen has been made aware of her poor customer service so you can make things better. If I do find it within myself to use you again, I will go over the estimate and notes first to make sure all information is accounted for. Take care and good luck to you. No hard feelings on my end as I stated your crew made up for the office issues.
"I am very happy to hear that Willie and his crew were able to make the situation right for you. A few things to cover.... Amy is fabulous and your first impression of her was completely accurate. She is taking the summer off to be with her kids and we were sorry to see her go. Regarding the Angie's List discount. Yes the coupon is supposed to be printed out but that is a relatively new policy which is why the discount was approved without it. When Doreen originally told you that all you had to do was mention it, she was correct for that time period. As you pointed out, anyone can do that, which is why we changed the policy. Although my general feeling is that the only way you would know about the discount is if you had been on Angie's List. I have no explanation about why the guys had the wrong address. Typically we do two confirmation calls during which all of the details of the move are verified including any addresses and contact information. I apologize for the situation and will speak with our Operations staff regarding how that went wrong. I agree with you that Willie and his crew are great. As you said, you joined Angie's List to find a reputable mover and while I am upset you experienced static, ultimately our movers are great. They are background checked, professional, well-trained, and many, like Willie, have been with us for years. You will find that is relatively unheard of in this industry. Our computer system allows us to review both the original estimate and any revisions made. I will personally take a look at what the changes were to find out why this happened. Ultimately I'm glad your end experience with the guys was a positive one. Our goal is to exceed our customers' expectations and I apologize that your entire experience did not meet our standards. I assure you it will be addressed. I hope next time you will remember the positive impression you had of our men and will allow us the opportunity of a second chance. If so, please be sure to mention this."
"Thank you for taking the time to review our service for you. Hopefully next time you need a mover you will again think of us and give us the opportunity to earn all A's."
Would highly recommend them. They were great!
"Thank you so much for the kind words. We do our best with every move and are glad to hear that you were happy with the service."
