"The thermostat, which is internal to the tank, failed after five years. It has nothing to do with the hot water heater installation. The customer was being very rude and disrespectful and threatening to call a lawyer. I do apologize for hanging up since we take great pride in our work. Every once in a while you get a customer that is unreasonable."
Our home is approximately 4,000 sq., with 2 separate (high efficiency) a/c units, 2 (yes, 2) clothes dryers, a pool, sprinkler system, etc. Our electric bill averaged (through FPL's Budget Billing) $260 per month. Unfortunately, because of the location of our water heater, heating our hot water would have involved extensive plumbing work. We elected not to install solar hot water panels, but Steve still estimated our bill would be less than $50 per month. He was wrong. January's bill (a very rainy month) was $36.40, and in February and March, our bill was $9.05. According to the FPL Energy Dashboard our usage to date is $5.46; we've got another 10 days before our next bill. I never thought I would look forward to receiving my monthly electric bill!
Steve, and his associate Chris, were a pleasure to work with. Professional, knowledgeable, and super respectful of our home, property and time. Steve also assisted us in obtaining a FPL Net Meter, and connecting us with Solar Edge, an app that allows us to remotely monitor our energy production, our new obsession.
If you are considering solar power, I highly recommend Solar Concepts.
They did the work as promised, were always on time and schedule, kept me up to date with the progress etc. The instalation came out very good and I am happy with the finished project. They were also open to requests from me in regards to the project.
Overall a very positive experience, highly recommended.
I want to tell everyone out there who is looking for a solar company about Solar Concepts and my personal experience .
I researched this house project for three years ! before I saved my monies and made my decisions, I even researched with Nasa's Solar Division to educate myself on Solar systems. So needless to say when it came to choosing a company I was just as careful.
I am really very grateful I made the right choice..
So many times in this life you are disappointed by the contractors we hire. But I can finally say I found a complete STAR in the bunch.
Not only is Solar concepts good at what they do , they are priced fairly enough to make solar possible .. unlike so many other more overly priced companies out there .
But the real bonus here is their priceless character of professionalism and genuine dependability. They are local to my neighborhood which made me very comfortable, and also I know they have been around a long time. That's also very important also .
I would not normally do this but I am so happy with Solar Concepts and my solar system ( which Ive had up now for about 8 months ).... I am happy to back up this review .......... I invite anyone who wishes to see my system at my home and I will tell them personally I really mean very word of this review.
Just contact the company and they can set up the appmt . I am happy to help . I believe in Solar and if I can spread the word I am happy to . !!
Since FPL offers a generous rebate for the installation of solar PV systems, no further work was done until April. FPL's rebate application window opened and closed in about 120 seconds on May 3, 2012. With tips from Steven on how to provide just enough detail in the application to allow it to be prepared quickly and get approved, I succeeded in getting the FPL rebate. The contract with Solar Concepts was signed on May 3rd and work began on getting building permits approved by the Town of Davie.
Getting building permits proved a bit more difficult than I expected. Initial plans from Solar Concepts were rejected due to lack of sufficient detail. Steven did tend to be a bit free style in his approach, but was able to rise to the occasion and be sufficiently detailed when required. Permits were approved and work began on June 13th. The permit approval process represented the only significant delay in the project.
The project was completed quickly and was up for inspection on June 19th. It failed the first inspection since 20-amp breakers were installed on each branch circuit, rather than the 15-amp breakers specified in the plans (another example of being a bit too free style for their own good). Once the breakers were replaced, the system passed inspection.
It should be noted that FPL was sufficiently satisfied with the work that they installed a new net-meter very quickly (June 27th),
and the FPL rebate check was in my hands on July 12th.
Overall, I believe Solar Concepts did an excellent job. They are a bit more expensive than most, but I rather pay a bit more for a project than risk having my contractor go out of business half way through the work. The lack of detail in the initial project plan left me and the Town of Davie a bit uncomfortable, but was taken care of pretty quickly.
the WATER is EXTREMELY hotter - which is EXCELLENT. Where the faucet used to be 50% / 50% hot / cold, now it's 30% / 70%.Nice.
Using FPand L's website, we figured we used about $70 - 78 / month for ELECTRIC hot water. Saving about $850 yr savings. (take that out 12 years = $10,200 . Of the $5000 cost - FPand L has a $1,000 rebate program. Submitted everything ON-LINE with Steve's help with the data - check is coming. Then with the Federal 30% Tax Credit, it'll be another $1,500 back on that. The SYSTEM cost of $5,000 is cut in half!! Then the savings?! It's be PAID OFF in 28 months!!!!
DON'T HESITATE - if you want to look at my ROOF and MESSY garage to see the tank, come on by!! The thing is RATED now for 180+ MPH winds (new regs). FANTASTIC. Now when another WILMA comes by, knocking us out for 12-20 days..... this home will have HOT WATER all day long !!!!
PEACE and Be Safe out there ~ Mike and Cathy
