After numerous phone calls and messages during nearly 30 days of sales pitches, on May 20, 2014, I accepted the proposal from Good Sounds Home Theater, in Boca Raton, FL, for the purchase of the hardware, the programming services and complete setup of the home theater in our entire house encompassing 6 rooms. The company owner, Jim McGowan (semi-retired) introduced me to his son-in-law, JP Witting (managing the business), among other technicians and ?engineers? when I was reassured by Jim and his team to receive the utmost professional service, diligent follow-up and an immaculate experience with Good Sounds. I then agreed to the $9,000 50% deposit.
I supplied Good Sounds with a written detailed account of all equipment inventory and work that was expected to be performed with drawings and equipment list, which was not reviewed nor used by their technicians.
Our home was undergoing a large remodeling project and throughout the remodeling phases, I frequently updated Good Sounds technicians in writing of the progress to ensure perfect synchronism with their installation of our Home Theater. Our experience with this company has been destitute ? as I made clear in writing several times to its owner, with many mistakes ? most of which I averted since at this point, I no longer trusted Good Sounds to work in my home without supervision. Mistakes made were such that the project manager Cory informed me that the person most responsible for this chaotic service was fired due to his lack of performance.
1. On the morning Aug-20-2014, 9:30 AM, I was informed by owner Jim McGowan by telephone that Good Sounds would no longer be performing any services in my home; they would not install the home theater nor deliver any of the products listed on their proposal;
2. I was also informed that Good Sounds would review and offer me a small partial credit of my $9,000 deposit;
3. Furthermore, it was made clear to me that the contract was being unilaterally canceled because ?I was one of the most difficult customers they?ve every worked with and I was disrespectful to the staff and employees? ? which, as at least a half dozen contractors can attest to, never, ever happened;
4. Based on their instructions and installation guidelines, I invested thousands of dollars on electricians, painting, finishing and materials specifically for the installation of the home theater locations, which were all outlined and marked on location by Good Sounds;
5. Throughout these months, my contractors made countless repairs from the sloppy, shameful work performed by Good Sounds with over 80 holes that had to be patched, mended and refinished ? this is in spite of my constant requests to properly protect the work areas, surface and furniture when they are working;
6. Good Sounds did not deliver any part or portions of our complete home theater installation project;
7. Their employees are amateurs and ignorant of the project scope to be performed maintain arrogant postures when called upon to clean up after themselves or repair problems they caused; They have no idea what they are doing, no proper instructions on what to perform when they are on site with owner's who are unresponsive and simply don't care;
8. Numerous mistakes were made ? many of which I was able to correct prior to escalation;
9. Good Sounds canceled the project leaving thousands of dollars of the home theater remodel now useless;
10. Once our $9,000 deposit was received I never again received any phone calls or follow-up from either the owner (except to ask for more money and increase the project cost) and trial text messages clearly demonstrates my claims.
11. My calls placed were not returned and messages not replied by owner's Jim McGowan or JP Witting.
Control 4 Service in South Florida by qualified dealer impossible to find, communication with this company was ridiculous, and no credit for reduced job - and still not functional.
Would not recommend... For the $17-18k paid between 2 dealers I could have wired my 3,400 sq ft. house with a Crestron and Lutron lights and had a better arrangement.
Keystone Cops at best
