This plumbing experience went absoutley horrible. And I have to take some of the responsibility since this was prior to me becoming a Angie's list subscriber and I really didn't do my homework. John from Al's plumbing promised to replace an 8 foot section of sewer pipe that had roots growing into it causing obstruction. He said he could do the job for $1,500. He had me give him $1,000 after the first day of just digging the hole and not even exposing the sewer line. This was a big mistake on my part since the next time he showed up was a week later and claimed the weather was a factor.Almost three weeks later he realized that there was a boulder in his way and said he tried to jack hammer the rock and broke his bit. (hog wash) I had also paid an additional $1,000 because he said the scope of the job was larger due to the boulder obstacle. (another mistake on my part). He said that the cost would be around $3,000 double his initial estimate. The bottom line is that he offered me no solution and said I should just cover the hole back up and do a clean out maintenance every year. I asked him for some of the money back which I paid him up front and he said that he had already earned the money and that there would be no rebate at all. So for $2,000 of my hard earned money I got him to dig a hole and then fill it back in over a three week period. As I said I am not blameless in all this but this guy took advantage of me and just didn't care. Please do yourself a favor and steer clear of this rip off artist.
Description of Work: Basically Al's Plumbing dug a hole in my side yard to replace sewer pipe (which he never did) without notifying city or pulling a permit. When he ran into a boulder in the way of rerouting pipe he claimed he broke his jack hammer bit on this rock (proposterious) He gave up on the job and charged me $2,000 to dig a hole and then filled it in when he couldn't deal with the fact that he couldn't be bothered finishing the job.

Response from Al's Boca Plumbing
Mr. (member name removed) called my company for an estimate on executing and repiping a broken sewer, and then proceeded to give me his version on what had to be done. Then he said he had the job started by his plumber but was too expensive and didn’t trust what his plumber was doing, so based on Mr. (member name removed)’s version of the job telling me that the other plumber had already started the job and lined it out and figured out where the sewer brake was gave me a very simple job description and that the other plumber, which he liked, was too expensive so based on Mr. (member name removed)s version I gave him a quote and set up to look at the job. He then continued to tell me he lived out of state and would set up the meeting with his son and his son would explain the job to me. When I finally traced down his son there was no real information on the job, so I had to spend time to figure it out myself and was nothing like what Mr. (member name removed) said it was. How could it Mr. (member name removed) was never there? And his son works late hours and was tough to get an appointment to see the job at a reasonable hour. When I finally got to see the job it was a mess, broken and old sprinkler lines, also broken old cable lines. I have pictures and witnesses to prove this. I called Mr. (member name removed) and explained the real job to him and he asked how much the job cost would be. I had given Mr. (member name removed) a reasonable figure and MR. (member name removed) said od and his son would give me a deposit. At this time our area was going through rainy season and it rained for two weeks with heavy flooding, but we worked anyways and we always spoke to Mr. (member name removed) to let him know all the progress and could not possibly work due to weather and Mr. (member name removed) and his son were aware of our progress; our phone record will show that Mr. (member name removed) agreed with me and said we were doing a good job. We ran into many problems, many large trees, and large rocks we have pictures of all the progress and the problems Mr. (member name removed) was aware of this, then we ran into a major issue and when we told Mr. (member name removed) of the problem he had to make a decision on what to do. I gave him options but he was afraid of the cost, so he opted to just keeping the sewer line clear of the root minerals and to treat the sewer line with root minerals to keep back the roots and the sewer clean. He choose not to re pipe the sewer and then he offered me to finish closing the job and he would pay me in four weeks when I asked him to pay by credit card or check he resisted, but we back filled the job anyway and we were hit with more heavy rain and we still worked. The complete job was for $2500 and was agreed by Mr. (member name removed). I did not receive the full amount; he is clearly trying to get out of paying his bill. The money he paid my company is accepted as payment in full. We have earned it! I have pictures and phone records and witnesses to prove my side.
