Work appeared to be going OK. However, Mr Wells had to be reminded that he was responsible for putting sod around the culvert pipe. Mr. Wells said that he needed more money because the concrete cost more than anticipated and we stupidly gave him $600 more than the quote. When he did put the grass down, it was obvious that it had been taken from another job. It was different kinds of grass and full of weeds and had orange marking spray on it. Because Mr Wells was a relative of a family friend, we did not push the issue. However, the coating of the slab was 2" thicker than it should have been and came to the bottom of the door. When we called this to his attention he was irate and did not want to do anything. At our insistence he did put a door sweep on the door to try to keep water from entering the home. It is our belief that the extra cost was directly related to his mistake in putting down too much concrete. The cracks came back immediately. We had another contractor cut a small groove in the patio to channel the water away from the door. To fix this properly, will cost us another $500-$600. Mr Wells was subsequently seen going by our property several times.
