I was amazed at how quick they got us a quote and the equipment.
We have been having problems with our system and have recently had multiple HVAC companies to our home to figure out an odor problem and have gotten proposals for repair. During the course of these other opinions, we got a good critique on One Hour Air's, workmanship, which is not good. It turns out that they spliced a 20 inch return duct on to the existing 22 inch duct thereby restricting air return to the system. In addition, the duct was not properly insulated which will cause condensation problems in the system. (During the repair, the tech bragged that he was using a piece of duct that he had at the shop, I had no idea it was the wrong size) The same tech also relocated a UV light that another tech had installed on the system several months ago. (The light was originally placed on the door above the a - frame, bad location when the door needs to come off, but above the coils is correct) This tech moved the UV light to the intake side of the coils, above the filter. We discovered that the UV light caused a 90-day pleated filter to disintegrate within 3 weeks, big holes in it!. While this tech was moving the UV light, he told me in no uncertain terms that the other tech had not done it right.
Our house has a 5-ton condenser, mis-matched to a 4-ton air handler and is not properly handling humidity in the house. None of the OHA techs noticed this mis-match over the course of 4 visits to our house, all other HVAC companies were quick point out this serious issue. (As a result we are having the entire system replaced including some major work on the duct system)
I did have the One Hour Air's service manager come to our house during this process to get a proposal for the fix. Mr. Eddy walked around the attic and must have noticed the duct, but never mentioned it. When I showed him the UV light was disintegrating the filter, he had no reaction, never offer to fix it or anything. At the end of his inspection, he said he would call me to propose a fix, that was over 10 days ago, I didn't expect to hear from him!
No way will One Hour Air ever come back into my house. Time will tell if I can get a refund for the work that must be redone, or the balance remaining on the annual contract. We were not on Angie's list when we called them....our mistake.
